For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 170 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 170 | I have a question: Who knows what the little curved 3” piece of metal, spot welded in the middle of the fire wall, engine side, is for? I seen other trucks with it but never seen it being used. Got an idea? One more question, since that one will be easy for someone. My truck was a basket case when I got it, and I can’t find the kick panels that go under the dash, by the floor, by the door. Could they have been cardboard and now disintegrated? Or are they metal and I just don’t have them any more? Thanks for the help!!! | | | | | Joined: Mar 2000 Posts: 784 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2000 Posts: 784 | OK Kevin I'll take a stab at this one. Your kick pannels were cardboard. You can make new ones out of metal or get the cardboard ones from any of the vendors. Now as for the curved piece of metal on the fire wall I'm not sure, but you might be looking at the cover for the drain for the cowel vent. If thats the case there should be a metal tube on the inside of the fire wall and one from the drain hole in the grove of the cowel vent. These two metal pipes are connected together with a short piece of hose. Hope this helps. Thanks! When I get home I will look under the curved thingy. That might be what that thing is for, to keep moisture off the engine? or to hold a drain line? Anyway, thanks for the help. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 586 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 586 | Are you sure your truck came with kick panels? Factory '51s did not come with them. I can get them, but they are not a stock item. The hole could most diffently be for a drain hose for the vent. So is the curved piece to cover the hose or to hold the hose? still a mystery to me.
I'm real sure the truck has kick panels because there is a small flange (about a 1/4" high) at the floorboard that looks like it is for retaining the kick panels.
Thanks for the input guys! | | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 424 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2000 Posts: 424 | The curved piece is a deflector to divert the water off to the side so it doesn't drain from the cowl vent right onto the valve cover. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 170 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 170 | Berry, I knew you would know.
