I'm headed to central Michigan after school Friday, to pick up the 51 GMC frame & running gear I've been so generously offered! I'll either have the beginnings of another project, or some more barnyard decorations.

A deep-south guy like me in yankee-land- - - - -better behave myself, I guess! They closed the hunting season on those critters back in 1865, or so I hear!

Hey Hotrod,

Be ready for heavy traffic when you hit Michigan this weekend. Monday is opening day of Firearms Deer season. Traffic will be crazy on I-75, especially Friday night, Saturday day, and Sunday day. Where abouts are you heading? I'll be just outside Clare at Deer camp myself. Good Luck and be safe.

I'm headed from Nashville to Holland, MI, on the east coast of Lake Michigan, about halfway up. My Yahoo map says it's about 560 miles, 8 hours or so driving time. I'll be traveling through Louisville, KY, and Indianapolis, on I-65. Once I reach the lake, I'll leave 65 and take a series of other roads.

Tennessee's deer season opens in a couple of weeks, and the muzzleloader season just ended, so I've got a free weekend. Once the centerfire rifle season opens, ya couldn't drag me out of the woods with a D-9 Cat!

Memphis, huh? Well, in that case, I'd better pack a little real Tennessee barbecue along, just to remind you what you can't get way up there! See ya Saturday!

Don't forget to bring your own coffee grounds with you, too! wink
The last time I went up North...all the way up to Arkansas...when I got north of I-10, there was a real shortage of good coffee.
Can you believe that they didn't even have any boudin, cracklins' or hogs-head cheese? I was almost starvin' by the time I got back home! smile
While I was up there, I stopped at a place where the sign outside said, "Good Cajun Cookin'"! I thought I'd see if it was true so I went around to the back of the building, opened the back kitchen door and who I saw cookin' didn't look like any kind of "Good Cajun", so I took off with out even tryin' to smell what they were trying to cook. wink

Swampcat, that Cajun coffee is thicker than the 140 weight I use in my transmission, and it's got enough caffiene in it to wake up a corpse! How do you folks ever get any sleep?

Thanks, Ben!
That number's going into the note pad right now! Maybe we can hook up for a coffee or something a bit stronger on one leg of the trip or the other. I worked in Logansport for a short time in the summer of 1965, as a door-to-door book salesman. That killed my interest in direct sales forever!

Back at the farm!
I'm the proud new owner of a 51 GMC frame, and assorted other goodies, and it only took 1200 miles of driving! Thanks, Jim and Stephanie! That old cab and bed are going to look pretty good on the Jeep frame once the project is completed, and I think that 401 AMC engine will definitely move it around with some style and authority! Good people, and a fun weekend to boot!

We had the pleasure of meeting an honest to goodness Gentleman, this weekend. Hotrod is extremely knowledgeable(and funny, ask him why ya dont put a blower on a 11:1 motor lol), and is a true testament to the vast amount of accurate know-how you can get by working with people on this site. Thanks Hotrod, see ya in Kentucky for our "shakedowns". I'll bring the bait.
