And that Binder? At least someone on the International assembly line is a distant relation to Billy Durant, so it's cool, too. So let it be written, so let it be done. John

I like Studebakers. Too bad they're one of the fallen flags since they had a good product as far as I know and they came from an aristocratic line, wagons! They came up the hard way, you might say.

I enjoy shifting, clutching before and after, engine whinning, old truck smell once you get going because the air cirulates and the first smell of mouse leave the cab. Then slowing down to go around the corner, flick on signal, clutching, neutral, clutching, a little gas ,shifting.. a little more gas, flick off the directional, and it starts all over again. I love it when I stop at a light and a person sitting in the car next to me, starts by looking at the size of the tires, then there eyes follow the lines of the "big" fenders and they realize they are not looking at any vehicle. It always brings a smile to their face. | | | | | Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 1,159 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 1,159 | Swampy, Right on! Studebaker DID make wagons. If you've ever seen the Southern States Percheron show hitch that used to travel around, their hitch wagon was built on a Studebaker running gear. I think one or two of the Budweiser hitch wagons may be studebakers, too, but I'm not sure.
One our Mennonite neighbors even has a Studebaker wagon. Maybe someday I can finally convince him to sell it to me.
Fred, yer cool. We're just joking around.

They keep coming back. I have found that once I find a nest like that you have to kill every one of them because the workers come back and fix a new nest within days. So keep checking that area and keep killing them with that spray.

Well, the manliest truck I've ever driven was a 1951 Dodge M37. The steering is so hard that the g/f literally cannot turn the wheel if it's moving under 10 MPH, and she's a softball player, so she's got a good set of arms. None of the gears are synchronized, the clutch throw is a foot and a half long, it's got a flathead dodge sixer that is completely waterproof (my military officer said that with the snorkel kit, you'd drown the driver before you'd drown the truck), and if you don't start it JUST right, you get gas in the oil, and it won't start for anything, so you have to drain the oil, new spark plugs, new oil filter, then *maybe* it'll start. Besides, how cool is it to have the ignition button be a pedal just over the accelerator pedal? SWEET! That truck is literally one where one foot is on the gas, the other is on the clutch, one hand is on the steering wheel (unless you're turning it...ack.) and the other is on the shifter (which, might I add is 2-1/2 feet long ) Oh yeah, did I mention that I pull-started a deuce and a half with one of them once? THAT was fun - floor it, slip the clutch to get it going, hit 2nd reeealy quick (well, as fast as you can hit an unsynchronized 2nd) and keep it going up to about 20 mph. then you feel this jerk that feels like it's going to rip the frame out from under it, and then it gets real easy and you hear the turbocharged multifuel in that big kaiser whining along behind you.

First of all, I'd have to drive it there, than I would let you drive it back home. As long as you don't grind all my gears down to nothing. When Tony and I first dated, he use to grind a gear or two once in a while and he use to say, "next year they're making them out of rubber" Of course, what did I know. I use to believe him. How I know his head is made out of rubber!!! :p | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,445 Moderator - The Electrical Bay | | Moderator - The Electrical Bay Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,445 | Actually, next year they are making the gears out of water, so you can pour them together.
