Hello everyone. As you can see from my tag, my name is Kevin and I'm a new owner of a '40 Chevy 1/2 ton truck. I live in Temecula, California where it never snows, until this last Sunday… shocking! (Global warming???) :rolleyes:
I’m very excited to find this web site and have enjoyed learning about the project that I have taken on. The truck that I have was originally owned by my Uncle Willy. He is now 88 years old. He lives in Kansas and this truck was his farm truck since it was new. He was hoping that I could “get the ol’ truck running” before he is gone. So my intention is to get this truck restored back to its original state. Engine, trans, paint, etc. Then drive it back to Kansas for him to see.
I have restored a few cars (mostly Camaros) before but I’m new to the Stovebolt scene.
Which brings me to my first question: What does the term “Stovebolt” represent? What is the history/origin? I get the impression that it is pre ’72, 6 cylinders, Chevy’s. Since I’m restoring this truck I guess that makes me a “bolter”? :confused:
I have dismantled, sand blasted the frame, and painted the frame. This weekend I hope to get the whole brake system completed. Next, the engine machining and rebuild.

well welcome i am new to this also and you and i may need to chat more cause i am playing hell finding part for mine. and me im getting ready to start sand blasting and putting it back togather. so wish you luck and i have a couple of places i will send you some time for parts.

Fred, Thanks for the tip on the FAQ site. I thought that I had checked there but I must have missed it.
Wouldn't it be nice if that definition was some where on the home page? For those new and visiting? Just a thought.

what kind/year truck do you have and what parts are you having a problem finding?

if you look at the top of the page here at the 'Bolt, there is the 'links' section... click on that, then click on 'parts'.
