Things actually turned out so that my 64 Rat Truck ended up as a movie prop for "The World's Fastest Indian" anout a New Zealander who broke the morotcycle land speed record at Bonneville in 1962.

Here are a coupla pics of my truck "on location":

http://www.chevyasylum.com/bsf2004/wfi/1006/20041006_015r8.jpg Here it's being used as a pit truck for [censored] Rodwell's 32 Ford hotrods.

http://www.chevyasylum.com/bsf2004/wfi/1011/20041011_025r8.jpg And here it is parked in a Wendover, Utah motel parking lot...with a vintage California plate on it.

Even though I was just 3.5 weeks or so out of quadruple bypass surgery, it was good to get out on the desert, park the truck and sit in a camp chair and let the other guys do the work.

The days were long, though. Sunup to Sundown, 6 days a week. Oh, well, they paid for the use of the truck, plus room and board. I can't complain. Beats workin.

Then I stayed on the salt for the last Land Speed Racing event at Bonneville for the year, World Finals.

There are some pics and narrative on this at:
here

If you see any glaring error (with over a 1000 files to work with, there's gotta be an error or two, right?) please let me know and I'll fix it asap.

I still have 2 to 6 weeks before going back to work even begins to be a possibility...so I better start playin the bass again...and seein if I can take on an apprentice to help with some of the heavy work that needs to be done.

Stay tuned.

Well, it's a closely held secret but I'll let ya in on it. I used rattle cans of Zero Rust as primer and then Rustoleum Satin Black over that.

I figgered that a rattle can paint job was somewhat appropriate for a "period-correct" rat rod, so I just went and done it. So far, so good.

One of these daze (like maybe next summer) I may take the DA sander to it again and spray it with a heavy coat of primer/sealer and then satin black from an HVLP gun. But it's ok for now.

Ray,
Great pix, thanks for sharing! smile Looks like you had a great time out there.

Page "1" of your Indian series, there is a picture titled "Next Door Neighbors"-the truck in the picture is a 1936 Ford, not a 1934 as stated (my uncle used to have a '36).

Hope your surgery recovery continues to go well. BTW, primer and Moon discs work perfect on your truck...don't change a thing! grin

Regards,
Wannabe smile

Now you need to spend a night in it so you can tell everyone you've slept with a movie star. wink

Thanks for the correction. I have a hard time with 30s trucks. I'll make the change asap.

Also thanks for the good wishes on the recovery. I saw the doc yesterday and he seems to think that I'm ahead of schedule as far as knittin the bones and muscles back together. I just wish someone would tell the nerves in my chest. It ain't exactly comfy, yanno? Oh, well. The doc sez I otta be over the pain in 3 or 4 more months. I can harly wait. smile

I don't think I'm gonna change the color scheme of the truck, nor its basic appearance. I wanna replace the tailgate and get some decent wood down in the bed...and finish sprayin the interior in red...it's gonna be REAL red in there...but that's ok with me. And I may do some more panel straightening and then give it a real paint job...but it'll stay satin black.

Oh...as far as sleepin with a movie star...I did that back in August. The truck was my hotel during Speed Week at the salt flats. It was fine, but the maid service wasn't quite up to par. smile

Keep on truckin,

Hey folks, here's a link to the movie info:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0412080/
Who would have thought "Hannibal Lecter" would be a biker! And the woman playing "Wendy" has achieved Major Babe status.
This will be on my "must see" list.
Those crazy Kiwi motorcyclists! Maybe someday they'll do a movie about the Britten. Check out http://www.britten.co.nz/ if you've never seen one. About 5 years ago a local dealer had one on display for a weekend. They fired it up and the engine noise reminded me of one of those 7.62mm mini-guns they used to fire out of C-47s in a past war. Music.

My Dad's '82 El Camino is going to be in a commercial for a local restoration shop, owned by a memeber of our Hudson club. A little moment of stardom before Dad comes to get the car after the election.

I got a photo from John Munro (Burt's son) with a number of the cast in it. I'm having trouble identifying the one of the "babes."

Here\'s the url

If you know who she is, I'd appreciate the info.

Thanks,

The babe is the blonde, Jessica Cauffiel, who is also quite a singer and is a multi-instrumentalist.
I think I have socks older than she is!

I know I got socks older'n Jessica Cauffiel. The one I'm wondering about is the brunette/redhead (hard to tell in the light) in the middle of the pic:
http://www.chevyasylum.com/bsf2004/wfi/JohnMunror8.jpg

If someone knows, I'd sure like to put her name on the page.

Btw, I got socks older'n both of 'em together. smile
