| | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 111 Member | | Member Joined: May 2003 Posts: 111 | I am ashamed to say that I had to sell my classic 68 C-10. Due to a bad knee (that was getting worse), I was having alot of trouble with the clutch.
My new rig (the Pig)gets a whopping 14 MPG highway. It's a 96 Chevy 2500, ex cab, LWB, 4wd, auto w/overdrive, 350 vortec, custom 3" exhaust. How can I increase the gas mileage? I've got plenty o' power, and at 65mph I'm at about 2200 rpms. Before you say it, I'm not a lead foot. The only time I romp it is when I have to merge onto the freeway.
If you know of any good remedies or places to get advice on this modern monstrosity, I'd appreciate the help.

| | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 | Its all in the gear ratio.I had a 1998 Chevy 4x4 with the 350 engine and OD tranny.It got 20 to 21 MPG on the highway.The rearend was a 3.42.The next one was a 2001 4x4,it had the 5.3 engine with OD tranny.The best it ever did was 16 MPG.It had a 4.10 rearend.If you have a 2500,3/4 ton you are probably geared low.If you can get it geared to around 3.42 you will get a lot better gas mileage,however you wont win many drag races. | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 111 Member | | Member Joined: May 2003 Posts: 111 | We B: I know.
