The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk Finally.............. Dusty's home!

After over 1 1/2 years at the restoration shop, I picked up my '56 3100 and brought it home. The truck went thru a frame up, which included a complete engine (235) overhaul, and LOTS of new parts. Unfortunately, I had to haul the truck home on the trailer, as it is only about 98% done. (The guy doing the restoration went out of business and could not finish the job). On the "up side", the only things left to do are minor, which I can easily do myself over the course of this winter. It just feels good to have Dusty home, and looking forward to do some "cruisn'" come spring. Have asked Norse to help with posting some pictures of the "homecoming". (The smiles on that guys face are Not BIG ENOUGH!!)

Good for you, did you have to pay for the work being that he did not finish the job?

Actually I paid as the work went along, and was paid up until I picked up the truck. All was very fair and reasonable, and I'm totally pleased with the work that was accomplished. I'm just real glad the work progressed as far as it did, and not too much left to do. Sure feels good to have Dusty back in his stall in the garage!

Count yourself as one of the more fortunate. I've seen too many botched or abandoned "proffessional restorations" lately. It's good to hear that one went well.

'56--Thank you, again, for posting the pictures. Your help is greatly appreciated. There are a few small things to do to Dusty before he can "cruise", but plenty of time to get them done. (Yep--had to pull him home with a Ferd--hope he forgives me! )

Glenn--got it off the trailer when I brought it home, and put it in the garage. Just some "tweakin'" and Dusty will be crusin' again! (Sure will be glad when Spring arrives!)

Thanks 51 and Woog--Yes, I liked the black and white also. The jet black was the original color of the truck, and the grill, bumpers & headlight brezels were white (couldn't see where any of that had been chrome). I added the wide whitewalls to kind of contrast the side of the truck and "give it color" if you will. I still have the "stick on" CHEVROLET decals for the tailgate, but haven't decided to put them on yet. Other small things to do to Dusty first.

An update--since I brought Dusty home, I have identified 40 different things to do, to finish it up and put it on the road. Got busy and knocked out 5 of those things in one day--35 things to go and all winter to do them in. Going to have FUN finishing the truck and getting it ready to cruise.
