For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 43 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 43 | About 6 years ago I was working at a state hospital. My boss and I were chatting about trucks. When he discovered I was queer for old trucks, he insisted I follow him home that night.
He lived about 20 miles from town. After he showed me the dinning room floor he want me to help him replace, he led me deep out into the country to an old homestead. It was at the end of a dirt road near Deville, Louisiana.
All you could see from the road was a gap in two fence posts where there had been a driveway. We got out and walked thru head high weeds up to an old wooden outbuilding. It was leaning over hard to the right. He pointed at the weeds to our left and said the house was there. I couldn't see no house, but took his word for it.
We had to crawl under the door to the old shop/garage to get inside. It was one of those tilt up doors and it had tilted up when the building began to lean, so it was partly open.
There inside was a forest green 56 chevy truck. Short bed, step side. It was covered in dust. It had 1500 and some-odd miles on the odometer. The tires were flat and the bed full of junk. I couldn't walk all the way around it for all the junk in there, but I could tell is was cherry.
Once we got back in the daylight he explained how it got there.
The owner had bought it new and built the shed it was in cause it was his first new truck. He was fairly old when he bought it. He died that same year and left a widow and one grown son who was in jail. The widow was still alive but in a nursing home.
He claimed the son had been trying for years to get hold of the truck, so his mom burned the title, that she hated him for going to jail and leaving her in a nursing home all those years.
I was going thru a divorce and couldn't afford food much less old trucks at the time. Then I found a better job and moved on. The boss has retired on disability I hear.
I think it's time I called him to see what happened to that old truck.
His name is Ricky Paul. He lives in Deville Louisiana on Paul road. I'll have to look up his phone number just like you would.
If you get ahold of him first and get ahold of that truck before me, then you win.
I'm thinking, the way things are down here, and the way these folks are down here, that truck is still there.

I left a message. I'll try again later. Excuse my French. But it's ok now a days to say you are queer about something. Just don't say you are Gay. My buddy who had the '49 International, Ray Normand, hasn't showed back up for work yet. He is a fireman and only works a few days a week. Ray won't let me down. He will follow up on his old truck for me. Ray knows Ricky Paul too. They live out near each other around Deville. Me and Ray both drive same year Toyota 4x4's. I keep his tuned for him. He owes me....And he likes to look at my young wife.

I didn't know there was a daughter.

It's a lot easier to split the cash than to split the truck.

Saw Ray at work this morning. He promised to call guy today and track down the '49 International.
If I get that sucker, it's going on eBay.

Spot it in the daytime...Steal it at night. We use to call it the "Midnight Auto Supply" There is folks that can get you a "good title" advertised in all the magazines. Whatever you do FIGHT for the truck. Their battle isn't about trucks its about bragging rights. The truck has only YOU to speak for it | | | | | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 43 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 43 | Chipmonk, I ain't gonna get tween those folks! They are Devillians. (That's what we who live closer to town call them) Those folks out near Deville have their own codes and rules. An old joke down here goes, "If two Devillians get divorced, are they still first cousins?"

Every one that gets scrapped is gone forever. That's why I passed over a couple of really decent, but original trucks and bought the kluged up one that I did. I want to do a resto-mod and I don't want to take an original apart. But... Regarding the Spot & Steal That happened to the dad of a friend of mine. He had every automobile he ever owned sitting out behind the machine shed. He might have worn them out, but he never parted them out or parted with them. One day he went out there for something and his '37 Plymouth business coupe was gone. There were still truck and trailer tracks in the pasture, so it had only disappeared within a day or two previous. If it was abandoned in the desert, that's one thing, but don't even joke about stealing someone's vintage tin...
