Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 6 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 6 | I've looked just about everywhere I can on the site and can't find quite what I'm looking for -- please forgive me if it's been asked before.
I have a 65 with (I think) a 250ci 6 cyl and a Powerglide. I've about figured out the engine situation and want to put in a 350. It seems like that ought to bolt in pretty easily. I would like to pair the 350 with a TH 350 or 400. THE QUESTION IS how easily will one of these trans bolt in where the Powerglide was? I'm not afraid of welding but would like things to be as simple as possible ('cause I'm lazy).
I have more of a racing background so the old iron is an entirely new deal. Thanks for the advice, also appreciate any "Lookout!" advice anyone has on the engine/trans swap.

You'll probably have to fabricate a driveshaft, and possibly a rear crossmember. Given the choice, I'd pick a TH 350, it's lighter weight than the 400. If you want overdrive, try an early-model TH700, before they went to computer control on the converter clutch lockup. The early ones had a vacuum switch and a single wire going to a pressure switch, and the clutch locked in by governor pressure. Later models used the vehicle's engine control computer and the Vehicle Speed Sensor in the speedometer head to control TCC lockup. Lots of wiring headaches with the late-model oners! Jerry

I think they are about the same length. I think the 350 would work better with a 6 than a 400 would. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | I think dimensionally it measures the same. I think you will need a new yoke for your driveshaft.I think the glide and the t350 have different tailshaft splines. It's been a long time, I can't remember all of the little differences, Scott | | |
