Just finished installing a new floor board in my '41 3/4 ton. Both the old some what rotted away original and the new replica have a 2 inch diameter hole at the center just in front of the seat base / gas tank enclosure. Anyone know what the hole is for??

I just checked my 42 which I'm still restoring and my floor has the same hole. Sorry I can't help but I can't find anything in my book about it either.

Don't know about the earlier trucks, but the AD trucks have a hole in the driver's floorboard for access to the master cylinder that is mounted underneath the cab.

Master cylinder access.

And the vendors sell a rubber plug for that hole.

I’m asking more out of curiosity than anything, it seems an odd place for the hole to be It’s is not the hole for the master cylinder access, or the gearshift, or the emergency brake, or the battery..

It's for your finger. Stick it in to pull up the floorboard.

how about for those long trips when you don't want to pull over at the rest stop...

Yup....the hole will work well for all of the above applications, My buddy even suggested it could be used for ice fishing. However I'm not convinced these are what Chevy had in mind.

Kip, it really was a lifting hole to remove the floor pan. No mechanincals below that would require an access hole. Like everything else on these trucks the simple answer is most often the correct one.

Maybe to pour your beer out when the red lights are flashing behind you.

So many practical answers. If I had to pick I would go with the lifting hole, the floor board is very difficult to get a good grip on from above.

or maybe that's where you put the funnel for those long drives?

I thought that was for dropping bread crumbs, so you can find your way home.

The hole is not the one for the master cylinder cylinder, it is located exactly in the center of the floor board right behind the gear shift.

I have figured it out !!! The answer is ALL OF THE ABOVE.

However I did find a practical use for this "hole in the floor". Last night I drained what little lube oil was remaining in the transmission since the last time it was filled (probably 30 years ago) I found that a 3/4" hose will fit nicely into the transmission fill hole and extended it up through the "hole in the floor". I then placed a funnel in the top of the hose and wired the funnel to the "E" brake handle. Then proceeded to fill the transmission, no muss no fuss.

You have the right idea about the funnel & hose. On your truck you had a "long trip option". The funnel was only part of the option package. There was a tube (I believe it was bigger than 3/4") that was long enough to go from the funnel to the hole in the floor. It was used to avoid having to stop between fill ups.
