ok i went into home dept and they had both jute (clothy lokin stuff) and other undercarpet padding that seemed to be a little foamier.. wat would be best for undercarpet in a truck?

i saw alan horvath used the jute stuff.. is there a diffrence

anyone?

IMHO, i would use the jute.i will use it when i get that far. i used it for my ceiling and was amazed at the differance in temperture. we are having 95 degree days and it does not come thru even with the black roof on the truck. i don't think the other stuff will hold up. btw i work at home depot in the plumbing dept. and see the stuff everyday. RON

I first used the roof seal stuff... alum covered on one side and tar like on the other with a sticky back. It's about 6" wide or so and 24'. I put that down first to deaden noise (I also used it insode my door panels). The I used just regular carpet jute padding over that. All has turned out well.

I think the cotton fiber (jute) will last longer than the rubber foam stuff.

PS - If you're going to glue any to the ceiling, do not use anything but THIS or it'll come down later.

My suggestion to quite the cab:
. Buy a roll (cause it's cheaper, about $50.) of Dynamat. This stuff ain't cheap to begin with, but it works wonders!! You can cut w/ sissors, peel off the backing and stick it to the cleaned metal roof, door, or back panel of your truck. This product helps deaden the ''rattle can'' and road noises, allowing you to better hear yourselves, prevents hearing problems and makes listening to (if you have) music, a treat. You don't need to cover the entire metal panel, just the centre section. I put it on all of the cab's back panels, roof, and have plenty left to do the doors, a thin strip under the dash and centre floor panel to cut the rattling down when the radio's speakers are on. You could also cover with a jute material, which is Flimsy @ best and NOT very dense, or the better two 'foil' sided heavy duty jute to help deaden the sound. This stuff can also be cut with sissors and get placed on the floor to deaden the road noise. Many truck suppliers carry it as well as good auto stores & hotrod type shops. It also helps cut the sun's heating the cab in summer and holds your heaters heat in winter. I would suggest that after you cut this two sided foil jute material that you ''bind'' the edges w/ furnace tape, a sticky backed silver tape available at home depot type hardware stores. All the above can also be glued into place, after dry-fitting using a good grade of 3M spray glue. Then a carpet kit (I bought short napped carpet ~ don't glue down) which I hand cut to fit the floor. I used the old rubber floor covering as a templete to cut the carpet.
