Hey all, I need some help badly, If I keep going the way I am, I'll break my new tinted window glass...Trying to get my vent window assembly back in, and not having the best of luck..Does anyone know any tricks to make it easier?..Trying to take it easy, but fixin to get a little upset..Appreciate any knowledge you could share..Steve

Haven't done that part yet, Steve. My almost completed assembly is bagged and sitting in my warehouse bay 'til I get around to it or the old one falls out of the door.

What I can say is . . . Walk away from it for awhile. Your subconscious mind will be still working on the problem while you do other things and you'll be amazed at the new approaches you'll come up with in the meantime.

Are you referring to putting the glass back into the vent frame; or, are you referring to putting the vent/window frame back into the door?

Either way, I agree with Larry, walk away from it for a while. Tell us what is going on - many of us have learned the correct swear-words on all aspects of this operation.

If you are having problems getting the frame back into the door, Alan Horvath has a very good explanation of installation of the side window frame and an explanation of installing the vent window frame.

Thanks Tim..I walked away for this evening..Trying to get the vent window frame assembly back in the door after replacing window glass and all new channels and rubber..Actually, haven't got to the swear words yet, at least not out load..Tomorrows a new day..Later, Steve

I had those things from Alan printed out before, but they must be in a pile somewhere..Anyway, I think I got it figured out..I've been trying to start the vent channel on the top of the window, and working it down..Doesn't work, because the top of the assembly binds on the door..I guess I'll try to get the channel all the way down, and then get it on the glass..Let you know how it turns out..Have a great weekend, Steve

I've had the same fight on my 54 car a few times. I always have to try a few different ways to slither it in place before I find the magic way. It has several tabs and such to catch it when it's 'almost there'.

You should not have to force anything (unless something was bent in the process that is).

One thing that helps me is to NOT put any screws in until all holes line up. I use those small wooden skewers to poke thru the holes to tell when the holes are aligned.

Yahoo!! Got my passenger door all back together.Thanks everyone...All I had to do is talk real nice and take the vent assembly out last night for dinner and drinks.

You betcha Larry, just got back in from cleaning channels and painting some frames, the glass is soaking in mineral oil and soapstone in the dining room...After doing the passenger, the driver looked pretty bad..I do have a plan..Take care, Steve

Finished my doors yesterday...All new everything..Put in my Pertronix and coil a couple days ago...

It is a bit of a bear getting the vent window assembly in! I seem to recall it not being possible by fitting the main window into the vent window post/felt channel right off the bat.

It's like you have to get it in as far as possible and then get the main window into the channel ... fight a bit ... pray ... coax it, etc., etc. and it finally gets into place.

Not easy ... but possible.

You got that right, Alan...Finished my driver's door yesterday..I figured after getting the passenger door in, it would be easy to get the other one...Wrong..They only go in when they want to..No real step by step, It's just magic or some help from the window gremlins..Take care, Steve
