Hi, guys. I just bought a half ton panel truck. Its never been restored or screw with by a teenager. Its all there and only surface rust. It has the wood bed, original motor that runs, tranny, paint (whats left), etc. I may restore it or I may sell it. I'm kind of into vw type 181 things right now. What would be a guess at the market value of this one? Thanks.

Depends on where stickville is?! does a panel really have wood inside for the flooring. It is a 52 3100 that was used as a grocery store delivery truck in Sherman, TX for many years. It has an original wooden bed in excellent condition, a folding jump seat in the back, double rear doors, 235ci (hand crank option), 3 on the tree, dash is perfect, instruments perfect. Its six volt. Its all there factory original condition. It needs a new driver vent window glass and door glass (both broken, but there). I needs to be restored. I did a 48 5-window in long ago, so I know this truck fairly well. Parts are easy to find, here, in north Texas. Hell, it doesn't need any replacement parts, just redone with the drive trane of choice.

I'm thinking of redoing the 235 and chaning to a 12 volt system. Maybe bore and stoke it with some head work to increase its ability to "go" and pull. Wonder what can be done to the 235 to improve its personality?

Wood cargo floor was standard in Panels and Suburbans in the Advance Design series trucks. I don't know how long that was true in panels, but Suburbans had wood floors at least up to '67 or '68.

A good Texas truck probably has less rust than one from my area. I'm not in the market unless you're giving it away, but in my area I'd expect it to go for a couple thousand. Cleaned up and painted it might be five or six thousand.

Rodded it could be much more.

The best thing to do for a 235 is to find a 261 and swap it in. It's a bored 235 with better rods and full flow oil filter.

Paddywagon, does it have a clear title? Is it titled in your name? Where is Sherman? Does the engine smoke or knock? What's the body like, many dents or rust out? Is it driveable as is? Do the brakes work? Do you take out of state, post dated, third party checks?
Just kiddin' about the check, but more info and maybe pix would help.

If you take thrid-party checks I have one dated in 1999 for 1.5 million dollars that I'd give you for that panel if you can deliver it to Seattle.

I know it may sound cheesy but check on Ebay and see what people are willing to pay for one in the same or similar condition as yours. Also check Classic Car Trader online. I find it is a good way to estmate value of what you have.
