The spindle that holds the needle looks fragile. Is there an easy way of doing this without messing up the mechanism? Would like to switch the faceplate from one unit to another, but the needle and hub are in the way. Any ideas?

Finally sent it to Bowtie Bits and had them refinish the gauges and speedo. Best money I ever spent. I have found this to be a very effective method. | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 582 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 582 | Agree with Cecil. Took mine apart, broke the needle. Cleaned and prepped the gauge for new decals, etc. Messed up the odometer wheel parts. Ended up buying a rebuilt one. Worked perfectly and no more hassle! | | | | Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 113 Member | Member Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 113 | Just did my 54 speedo with no problems.

It would be cool to start at zero again but you have to mess with the speed balance spring to get at the odometer. I took an expired one apart to find that one out. | | | | Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 531 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 531 | Fred, I'm needing to replace my odometer... how difficult a job is it?? Thanks! | | |
