on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 40 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 40 | How do you adjust a bench seat in a 50 3100? Awhile back I removed the entire interior, now that it's going back together I can't figure out the seat adjuster cable mechanism/proper set-up/magic words....Any guidance would be appreciated  | | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 587 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 587 | Did it have a cable that wrapped around a roller on each side, and then go back and forth through a small passage at the back end of the seat? Sometime around there it changed to a different way of adjusting. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 40 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 40 | I think the cable is routed correctly (?) when I move the lever and try to move the seat only the drivers side works, if the spousal unit assists, the passenger side will move but won't lock in the forward position....darned new fangled @#$^! | | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 587 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 587 | OK, but you really did not answer my question. I will assume you have the cable routed around the back. Take off the seat cushion. Is the cable clamped down on both sides to a piece of the seat frame? If not, that is your problem. If it is, I advise pulling up the frame and removing the cable, take it to home depot and make a nice new one, make sure it is the EXACT same size as the old one. Clean and lube all the rollers and reinstall the new cable. Be sure the cable crosses itself on its journey from one side to the other. That is very important. Also - are the 2 springs still in place? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 438 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 438 | I sent some seat cable photos directly to Geoff. If others need them, I can upload them to the web. Let me know if that would be helpful. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | I think this will help me too. ChevyAsylum has graciously offered web space for the shots of the bench seat cables. Stop by 51Phatboy Seats to see the images of the cables on the 1947-54.5 bench seat I am rebuilding. Hope this helps you folks putting them back together. I do not have a full length measurement to share. Three cheers for Ray! :p | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 510 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 510 | My pleasure PhatBoy. Glad to be of service. | | |
