I just bought my first AD truck with battery under the passenger floor board. I would dearly love to relocate the battery. Of all the zillions of videos and photos of AD trucks on the road, I haven't seen one showing the battery on the firewall like the TF and newer. Is it possible to locate the battery behind the seat even with the gas tank, or does everyone keep it under the floor?

do a search for your year or several years and "move battery to engine bay". There are a few forums out there I like to change my google search to images tab and you can spot some easy that way.

LMC also offers a drop down battery box allowing you to move it anywhere on the frame with it under truck. granted you have to get down to get to it but it hides it nicely and you don't have to go inside to get to it

On your question about if there is room behind the seat with the gas tank, that would be a nope - sorry. You wouldn't want it back there anyway unless you plan to change the rigid seat back to something that allows for folding forward, and moving the gas tank elsewhere.

I relocated my battery to the passenger side firewall similar to the installation shown in the link from Dan. I have a twinge of regret for cluttering up the engine bay , but it sure made life and battery maintenance easier.

I also relocated the battery to the passenger side firewall. Much easier to maintain there.

Mine is under the truck with a cut off switch in the seat riser. It's easy to kill the battery every time I get out of the truck. With it right above the battery, the cables are short and it gave me a place to hook up direct to the battery cable for the electrical system. Use a maintenance free battery.

Mine is the same as Joe's. The cut off switch is in the battery to ground cable.

I am so use to the battery being under the floor (Stock). Based upon how often I need to disconnect the battery, I see no real reason to move it. It's pretty easy for me to lift the rubber floor matt and lift the battery cover. Already have a kill switch in place.

Me too. How often do you need to monkey with a battery? Under the floor is a pretty convenient place for it in my opinion. It's low enough to make it easy to reach and lift when necessary.

I keep a battery tender connected to the ground and (+) starter post when its not in use.

I think my engine compartment is prettier w/o the battery in there. Really. Prettier. Less cluttered.

You all beat me to it. My battery is still in the original location and I see no good reason to move it. Besides, its an Optima 6-volt. Other than needing to borrow it from time to time to run the Farmall Super A, I really haven't needed to do much at all under there in the 12 years I've now had the Optima. The negative lead popped off once but 20 seconds with the 9/16ths fixed that.

Thanks for all the feedback. I find reason enough to access the battery often enough that a subterranean dive is not an option. I finally found a Youtube video that demonstrates exactly how I should do it.
