I used my H.F. sandblaster the other day,the instructions on "watch out" were not in the package.
Double clamp the bottom hose-to -tank! when she blows off........The clamps they give you are
MickyMouse.
And when the Air Guage reads ZERO dont belive it!!!
You wouldent think that 2 lb top could fly
5' in the air!
I did have a good face shield,ear protection,and a
hard hat on.

wick37,

Is the offending sandblaster a pressure pot style. I thought the industry standard on the top, or fill hole, was to have it constructed so it was 'inside' the pot and would only open by falling inward with zero internal pressure.

Its a pressure feed, you pressureize the tank with the sand in it.You unscrew the cap to put the sand
in it. Only a month old.

wick37,

Is this the '40 pound Abrasive Blaster'! I'm not too anal in these regards, but that screw on top is scary! I'm actually surprised it was allowed to be sold in the good old USA. I can see how your accident happened. Pretty hard to fill with sand too.

Pressurized containers can be a danger. Always be cautious. Always check your tools and equipment before and after using. Keep well maintained. Discard worn or broken tools and equipment.

Good old Harbor Freight.I have very little faith in their products. When I walk thru their store most of the stuff looks like junk.Nothing I would want in my shop.I will occasionally buy a pack of sandpaper,or sanding discs there but thats it.I learned many years ago that good tools and equipment do not come cheap.Possibly something like an engine stand where you can ck.the quality of the welds and construction, but beware, most of their stuff is not worth bringing home. There are good imported tools available.Harbor Freight sells the lousy cheap imported stuff.

Be sure you don't use beach sand, its a killer. The pounded dust from it can cause baaaad lung problems like the old miners used to get.
Buy packaged, tested media such as garnet, glass or plastic beads from a reputable supplier..
