What is the heater hose size on a 1958 deluxe heater. Are both the same? What kind of valve for temp control goes on the cable from the lever on dash and where is that valve located. Thankyou.

Pete - For starters, check out this 1957 Chevrolet Accessory Installation Reference Manual. Page 108 is where the Truck Deluxe heater instructions begin. Even thought it's for 1957, it should still cover your 1958. wink

It doesn't specify the hose sizes in there, but a 1929-57 Chevy Master Parts book calls for both 5/8" and 3/4" ID hoses, cut from bulk stock. You should be able to measure the differences in the heater core tubes to match hose to tube sizes.

On the temperature control valve, temps are controlled by a Ranco valve assembly.

This 10+ year old thread by fellow Bolter hd4unm Deluxe Heater Assembly and Installation Tutorial on his 1959 Apache should provide you most everything you need concerning what goes where, how, why, etc. He did a pretty outstanding job creating a detailed "pictorial" to help fellow Bolters with this task. thumbs_up

Need more help???

Thank you Dan. Only had truck a month and drove 4 miles today ( longest drive since I got it. ) I had water coming onto floor from behind the heater. My first thought was a bad heater core , but when I looked under hood , bothe heater hoses wear same size, 1 inch outside diameter, Making me wonder if they were suppose to be two sizes like on 60s models and maybe the new hoses Precious owner may have just crimped down the new hoses onto the heater connection and the longer drive increase heat and pressure and the connection failed. Other heater core leaks I’ve had on other taskforce teucks were small and leaked out of heater housing. Guess I’ll pull it out and investigate. Probably had half gallon pour out while truck was idling b4 turning off. No leak while just sitting.

Pete - Do you have a Ranco valve on your heater? If the leak you are experiencing is not from the hoses, that's the next suspect place to look. Hope it's just improper hoses and an easy fix. wink

If your heater control valve is broken, these two guys rebuild them and/or sell rebuilt ones.

Dang! That sucks. It looks like no one is carrying on with the business since the email and phone number have been deleted.

He rebuilt the valve in Der Bismarck about 20 years ago.

Looks like mine has 3/4 fittings and hoses on both sides and heater core end. Bypassed and joined hoses together. Got to remove heater mow and find the leak. Have to anyway to replace lever on heat control on deluxe controls and see if it’s the ranco. Who sells those if it’s faulty?

Pete, please see my previous post. Although Jim Tucker has died , the other guy, Joe Hudecek , still sells and rebuilds ranco valves.
