Does anyone know the size of a 1946 3/4-ton Chevy kingpin diameter?
I have a chance to buy a set of adjustable hand reamers at an auction and my 46 needs new kingpins.

Thanks
Don

Don - your king pin specs are found in the GM Heritage Center 1946 Chevrolet Truck Data PDF.

Screenshot below highlights the details:

King Pin Diameter = .9210" - .9214"

King Pin Bushings Inner Diameter = .922" - .923"

King Pin Bushings Length = 1 - 17/64"

PS - I moved this to the Driveline forum where it fits best. wink

I have a 0.921" fixed reamer that I used once on my '52 GMC 3/4 ton. You pay the freight both ways.

'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12
'52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.

For what it's worth I used a wheel cylinder brake hone. It didn't take much to get them to size.

Thanks Dan, that is just the info I was looking for!

Bill, thanks for the offer but I think I can pick up a whole set of adjustable hand reamers for about the cost of round trip shipping.

Jammer, a cylinder hone is what I was planning to use to finish right to the desired clearance, after the adjustable reamer gets it close.
I’ll be shooting for no more than .001 clearance for a good slip fit.
If I was still working, I would make them myself.

Thanks
Don

The correct guided reamer that Bill offered above is what you need. .921 is correct. I did mine a few years ago and my 41 ford with same type of tool but different size and it does a great job. Basically the tool is the line bore when you can go at it from both sides.

I found both on ebay for pretty cheap. All I did was find correct part number from a early magazine and it popped right up.

I think you have the zeroes in the wrong place.

Thanks Bill for pointing that out. And yes, I did type that wrong earlier today. It should be .001 tolerance.
This getting older has it's new challenges! Edit will be next.

Bill, I look at it as live entertainment and it’s starting to happen more often with about anything I do. I just laugh it off and move on.
