Anyone know the numbers for a 261 carb .I noticed the other day when I was messing with some linkages to try and hook up my carter carb that I have 3 different Rochester carbs .I do know that one came off a 216 as I took it off myself and the bolt pattern is smaller than the one that came off of my 235 the other carb that was a spare to the origional Rochester that came with my truck looks bigger at the bottom and has 5140 stamped on the bottom of the base and 7005606 long the side of the base .The bowl has7005604 .
Unless you happen to have the triangular sheet metal tag that the carb came with originally, held on by one of the top cover screws- - - - -the one that usually got lost during the first rebuild, identifying a Rochester is a crapshoot. Several main body and throttle body casting numbers were used across a wide variety of very differently calibrated carbs. Carb King has posted a pretty comprehensive list of the various tag numbers, but without the tag number, it's a guessing game. Jerry

Those identity numbers for bowl and base come up on the list for 1954-59 Chevy Truck 261 applications. The original tag number is listed in far left hand column for the carb.

Some Rochester B carbs (including mine) had the model number stamped on the bottom of the throttle body.

Thanks Phil good to be able to confirm from the numbers as there is no tag. ,Dave I see the bigger Venturi size also as well as the throttle throat size ,I see in your picture of the 235 base it looks to be widened out were the bolts are is that how they were casted .Now would a 261 carb be of any benefit to go on a 235 ?
