They're refusing to obey Pete Hegseth's ultimatum to shape up or ship out. Instead, they're organizing a new special ops group. It's Called Meal Team Six!

It was policy stated by the SecWar to the obese uniformed "leadership" of the U.S. Military. The Commander-In-Chief is a civilian. This is policy for the warfighters, not the civilians in Government. Since I was commissioned (in 1987) it has sickened me to see the U.S. Military increasingly used as a social experiment by the liberal deep state. I, too, don't care for where the county has been headed and heartily applaud *this* commander in chief and SecWar who are trying to reinvigorate a warfighting spirit and discipline in our Military. I'd rather have a fat commander in chief than a corrupt, senile one.

And FWIW, my family has served this country since the 1750's (the records are somewhat thin prior to that ...). In my generation, my male cousins and I are all veterans -- Army, Air Force and Marine Corps. My generation did, however, win the Cold War and not without significant cost. And for which we get little to no credit.

Do you speak Russian? No??

You're welcome.

I spent 15 years in the military between the Navy Seabees and Army Calibration. I welcome the change in policy as I saw the incremental decay of a fighting force to a glorified daycare system. Weak leaders were plentiful and discipline was lax. This is a good move for the United States.

Having served in the USMC and side by side with Marines for over 39 of the past 47 years, the young Marines are still kicking (a -censored) and taking names. Yes, the grooming standards have been relaxed and there is a bit of a different attitude.

The Scot/Irish side of my ancestors believed they had someone with the family name at the battle of King's Mountain. The Cherokee side doesn't remember Liz (high cheekbones) Warren, however! LOL! Oral histories can get pretty cloudy in a lot of ways, it seems!

It was a military briefing, not a rally. Military decorum does not call for applause or booing.

I listened to Robert Arnold and he is a persuasive speaker. He is also a flaming liberal, so he is not really an unbiased speaker. I watched a couple of his videos and he is very slanted. His take on Conservatism is total BS. To be conservative is to want things to not change, like keeping slavery. Very shallow thinker that plays on words. As for Secretary Hegseth, he is a decorated combat veteran. I believe it is about time to have a Secretary of War that has seen the gore of war and not some political appointee. If you talk to combat veterans, there is no one more against going to war than them. But, if you are to go to war, the better trained military generally wins. More wars are lost by politicians than by armies.

Just like his cabinet meetings. Total disclosure. If it wasn't there for all to see, you'd have more garbage like his first term. Lying Schiff and the rest of the political hacks would be telling lies about what was being said and discussed.

That thought occurred to me also, but since the boss himself was participating in the discussion, I assumed it was somehow OK.

The moderator is me and I have been watching and letting my brother veterans voice their honest opinions. I think this has been a fine discussion between rational *veterans* with strong opinions who don't agree on the subject.

OL55...not agreeing with you does not invalidate this discussion. Attacking a legitimate and time honored process is not constructive.

So as long as we can keep it to reasonable expressions of opinion sans rancor or personal attacks, there is no issue here.

So as the SOPA in this theater (stovebolt.com), I say at ease and carry on.

Maybe John, but it does violate the rule that you made for us. There are thousands of places on the web designed for those who want to talk politics. Let them go there. I thought this site was about old trucks.

Except.... 3 things apply here

1. This isn't political. This is quite the opposite. This is about *removing* the politics from our military and applying actual warfighting standards, not social trends.

2. Please reread the intro to this forum... especially where I mention be able to speak freely. We've served honorably. We've more than earned this right. Moreover, we've safeguarded it for others.

The freedom to voice one's opinion comes with a responsibility to do so respectfully and amiably as well as an obligation to do one's homework and be factual. E.g., don't make us fact check you. And if you get called out, be a man and accept the correction. If you state an opinion, we'll hear you out. But then accept that we might not agree and allow us to debate your point.

And as long as we're on the subject.... your opinion should be ... yours. Posting links to someone else's opinion can quickly degenerate into a war of Hotlinks. Which, in my opinion, is intellectually lazy, not to mention a PITA to wade through. And if you must post a link to someone else's opinion piece, at least take a moment to fact check them.

3. Nowhere does it say that this site is *only* about old trucks. To wit: the Greasy Spoon; the PMs (you can talk about anything); and even the post in the tools forum about other projects folks are working on.

You all are certainly free to try sea lawyering me. Give it a whirl. But don't cry when I win. And I will win. grin

The Skipper's Rules:
1. The Skipper is always right.
2. When in doubt, refer to Rule No. 1

Yes. You learned this in boot camp. I do not know the Army or AirForce equivalent term for being a sea lawyer.

Have a swell Sunday. Do something productive.

Carry on.
John

Title of this thread was changed from "A bunch of overweight flag grade officers- - - - -" to "SecWar forms new SpecOps Unit." Admin's reason: "Changed title for clarification"

Is there a source that can be cited to justify and clarify this new title?

Yes, we have it written on a napkin just next to the coffee stain but before the tear-marked smudges where we tabulate our current costs to run this place.
