You may not of thought of it as a tool before but think of this. We are always asking for pictures here and I know my memory can and has failed me while staring at a pile of parts. Keeping a good photo history of your tare down and build not only makes us happy here it can be a valuable tool in your project. I have come up with new great ideas for my build while staring at pics in the comfort of my recliner and more than once referred to a picture in my pocket while out for parts or in the middle of a wrecking yard.

Especially helpful to those of us suffering from OldTimers desease. Great suggestion Grant from Roy.

HeavyHauler, great suggestion, I rarely leave home without mine.

My digital camera, that is. I usually take far more pictures more is necessary, but unless you print them, they don't cost a cent. A very fast way to gather information. Store them on a CD for later reference.

What a super tip for the ones who may not have one.

That is a good idea.When I built aircraft engines we would have volumes of pictures in an album for reference.Each model engine had different wire loom and hydraulic hose routing.It sure saved us a lot of time.

When I pulled the dash out of my 58 Lincoln coupe I took well over 50 pics.
I'll need every one of them on the re-install project.
Ya think there are too many wires under a Chevy truck dash , ya should see a Lincoln.

Yes this is true. You always think your going to remember but when time drags on and a day turns to months to yrs then (how does that go again) surfaces. Its helped me plenty of times. And with the advent of dig cams its made even simplier.

Picture says a thousand words. I have rebuilt many excavator pumps Komatsu, Kawasaki, and Cat to name a few. Without pictures it would not have been very fun. Especially when you have two or thee of them in pieces at a time. Another helpful hint is to get a chunk of phone wire from you handy tellie repairman. You know the big bundled stuff with a bazillion colors. All you need is a piece about six inches long. Pull out one wire cut it in two and you have two color coded twist ties to mark connecting points of hoses or wire bundles.

Grant, great tip to pass on about the telaphone wire.
I too work on hydraulic equipment ; power line stuff ,under-ground and overhead.
That little colored piece of wire has saved me from many a headache. :hammering:

Thats what I bought my first Poloroid camera for and of course I now use my digital camera. I don't try remember how to do everything... I just try to remember were the book or picture is that tells me how
