I'm looking at buying a 1/2 Dewalt drill that has been reconditioned. What exactly does reconditioned mean? Are these tools still good? He claims it has full factory warranty like buying a new one off a store shelf. The price is 50 bucks good buy or should I go buy a new off the store shelf for a 175 bucks

I have bought reconditioned, it is usually as good an new or better since it has been tested throughly by the company.
The only problem I have found with Dewalt is the electrical cords. The Dewalt items I have owned the outer sheathing cracks and splits over a short period of time. Dewalt does not warrenty it. In fact they will never answer your mail or email concerning this either. Dewalt is part of the Black and Decker Company along with Porter Cable. So I just buy Milwaukie. Which I think is a better tool.

I bought a couple of reconditioned tools at Andersons last year, they seem to be better quality than the ones I had in the past and better priced at that.

When I'm looking for stuff like this I usually swing by a pawn shop. Last time I was there they had a big old herking Milwaukee worm drive saw for less than 100 bucks. It's "as-is" but you are allowed to fire it up and check it out.

I have bought Sears recondtioned tools and they are just as good as new.

Recondition quite often means previously sold. Once an item has been sold, it is no longer new. If the buyer returns it for what ever reason, unless the package is un-opened, it is tested and sold as reconditioned. You'd be amazed at some f the reasons people return things for. If it is warrantied I don't hesitate to buy reconditioned.

bought a recon bench grinder 26 years ago and it still runs great. The biggest problem around here and especially at Sears is the recon stuff now is priced about as high as a new piece. Not to long ago a recon piece was half the price of a new one.

I bought a reconditioned DeWalt ½" drill about 2 years ago and it's still going strong. It's cordless with 2 batteries. By the time you run one down, the other is ready to go to work.

My dad bought me a reconditioned DeWalt router 10 years ago. I still use it in my router table. It works fine.

DeWalt =pretty good tools.Milwaukee tools are very good but quite pricey.It really depends on how much your gonna use it.The recons have a full factory warranty.I recently purchased a DeWalt planer for my woodshop.It is head and shoulders above the Delta that it replaced.From my experience just stay away from Sears for power tools.
