Hello I need some guidence on a carb for my 59 235 motor Tried to start it this aftn and not good . opened the carb and it has dried out and the potmetal is all frosty. Lookes on line and a few places have new carbs for around $140. a rebuilt from classic is 240 . are these new carbs any good ? i figure they come from off shore. dont know if mine will take another rebuild. Thanks and have a nice weekend

They're offshore knockoffs that sorta-kinda resemble the original carbs. They'll make most engines run, but not even close to correctly, compared to an original equipment carb. Unless the castings have big holes rotted into them, that cruddy OEM carb can probably be rebuilt to perform much better than a new "clone" that looks better than it runs.

Hi there. As Jerry said the offshore models are nothing to crow about...actually I would say you should avoid them. Please tell us what kind of carburetor you have. For the year 235 you have the Carter YF3211S is an excellent carburetor.

That all depends on which carburetor you have??? Please post some pictures of yours and we can better try and help answer your question. wink

I won't hesitate to tell you NOT to buy a new knockoff carb.

I did that before I knew any better (for a Ford inline six) and it is a piece of junk. I would have rebuilt the original crusty one had I known.

Don't just buy a generic kit for your carb. Make sure its the right carb for your engine and then get the exact kit for your carb from carbking at The Carburetor Shop.

Very good advice about the kit. Also...could be important to know...for most people it usually is...At the top of the engine section is a Tech Tip about common problems with the Rochester B models. There are two parts and one explains how to solve the problem of warped airhorn and float bowl (very common with Rochester B models and can keep yours from working properly. Hope it helps. Please let us know if you can't find it.

It is important to consider the off-shore knock-off "carburetors".............................

IF you have a rabbit problem in your garden and a strong right arm wink

They may also be used as door stops, paper weights, or if you are a fisherman they may be used to anchor a "trot line". wink
