(This are still good instructions; I'm working on images. Nov 3, 2023 - PM)

Add image(s) to a post

1. Full Editor
Any time you want to add image(s) to a post, you have to use the Full Editor. The Full Editor is automatically opened when you start a new thread. However, when you reply to an existing post, the Quick Reply is the default. If you want to add images to your post, you have to switch to Full Editor. Look at the bottom of the Quick Reply box. You will see the three buttons. Select "Use Full Editor."

2. Attachment Manager
Now, in Full Editor mode, look to the lower left-hand portion of that area. You will see a "paper clip" with a line (see image on left). That is the link to Attachment Manager.
Click on that link and it will bring up a new box (see image on right).

Now that you are in the Attachment Manager location, we have several steps that make up the basis for getting those images in your post.

3. Add your caption
Type in a caption that describes the image. As short or as long (up to 250 characters) as you feel inclined. DON'T HIT ANY BUTTONS YET!! nono You are far from done! (We think this is the spot that messes up so many folks. So, keep reading! thumbs_up )

4. Select the image - Two options here: "Select" or "Drag and drop" - Know where your images are. wink
You've added the caption for the first image. Look below to the "Select A File to Attach" button. When you hit that button, you'll get a pop up window. (In the image below, you'll see I have my pictures on my Desktop.)
Select one image (the file name will appear in that "File Upload" box). Hit "Open" and the image moves from your source to the forum post. You may notice a rotating circle while the image uploads. Do not do anything until that goes away. This image below is big but covers a lot of stuff.

When the upload is complete, you'll see it drop down as an "Attached File." (See this image)

Please note: the popup window on your computer may appear differently than this one. It may say "Choose" or something similar. It will depend on your operating system, file manager, image source.

BUT, DON'T HIT THE DONE BUTTON JUST YET! nono

5. More images?
You can continue to add images to the post (before you hit the Done button). You should still already be at Full Screen and in the Attachment Manager location.

  1. Write your Caption first
  2. Select image
  3. Repeat (up to 10 images)

IF you hit the Done button by accident, fear not. You are still in the Full Screen location. Go back down to the Attachment Manager link, and continue where you left off -- number 1, 2 and 3. smile

If you've loaded up all the images you want (limit is 10 per post), NOW you can hit that Done button. thumbs_up

BUT WAIT .... What happened?

6. DONE but not yet posted. wink
After you've hit the Done button, you are taken back to your New Reply screen. Make sure you have typed some text in that box. If you want to preview your post, you will not see the images. Everything, including your images will only appear when you hit the "Post" button.

POST-SCRIPTS

Now here it get a little odd but that's the way the UBB software is set up. There are different ways to add images; this is just one, using a PC, but the basics are the same. The differences come in when choosing images -- with copy and paste, drag and drop, file location, from a cell phone or other device. We'll explain all that. For now ... basics. It may seem tedious but once you get a few under your belt, you'll be posting images like a crazy Bolter. (Eventually, we'll get a video for all this, we hope.)

You should notice several things.
1. No caption? It is important to put a caption for each picture. There is "caption carryover." If you neglect to put a caption -- in the thread you are on, any image that had a caption which was added in the image that was before your post will "carryover" and appear as a caption for your image(s). Best way to avoid this is to make a caption. OR ... put a blank space (using space bar) in the initial box. All your images will show no caption. Plus, any images coming in a post AFTER your post, will carryover a "blank."
2. The images are listed in the "Attached Files" area in the order that you attached them.
3. There is a trash can on the right side of each listed image that allows you to delete it. Just click on that trash can.
4. The attached images have the names that you gave them. If you want to have a different file name, you should do that before you start your attachment process.
5. The total number of attached files is 10 for most forums. The Gallery Forum has 25. There is also a cumulative size limit. You may not be able to attach ten files.
6. Files are limited to 500 MB, but the software reduces their size to save space on the server. (We have some info coming on how to reduce your image size / dpi.)

The screen shots that Paul posted work, but for the computer-challenged among us, here's a screen capture video I put together for posting photos with captions. Just follow the pointer. POSTING A PICTURE WITH A CAPTION Before you move the image over into the box, you must add the caption for the image. The video shows this! It's easier than you think. wink

Here's a link to another thread that discusses using the Attachment Manager to add photos to your post.

It also mentions creating captions for your photos and one way to resize your photo (if it is too large to upload).

Thread in the IT Short Bus about adding photos in your post

Cheers, Dean

Nice video. Just remember that it won't let you upload images that are over about 3 mb. One trick to reduce them is to mail the image to yourself then save it. The emailed picture will now be small enough to upload.

Mike,

Good call on that. We've had a number of people who have had a problem uploading the images.

Another nice thing about emailing to yourself, you can change the file name before it goes into file manager. I move it to the Desktop and rename the file there. From there, I move it to the Attachment Manager.

I watched the video but I could not see what was going on even if I put the screen up to my nose, the screen was too small. I still would like to figure out how I did it that one time. :dang:

Yeah, I can understand that if you were trying to view it on your phone. Try on your computer.

No I use my phone for phone calls and sometimes when I have to wait for an appointment I watch Youtube. That comment was about my 15-inch HP android computer. No offense.

Ron, you can make that video full screen by clicking on the two arrows in the upper right of the screen. That will make it as large as your screen and start it playing.

Maybe put your cheaters on first. wink

When I reply to someone, it doesn't embed their remark (which gives context to my statement). For example, this was a reply to klhansen - he was responding to someone and the previous person's comment is embedded in klhansen's response. What do I need to do for that to happen (watch it work here).

I'm attempting to write good posts - but the tools provided seem broken or something. It says UBB Code is disabled - but the buttons for link, email, quote, spoiler, and code seem to be using UBB code language. And when I use these, they come out as clear text (instead of things like links, html, etc).

Also, what is a "spoiler" (i.e., what does that button do)?

Did I miss something? I only found the "How to add pics to a post" forum, but nothing on the editor.

Here's an example of a spoiler.

Basically, whatever you put inside that code, will be hidden until you click on it. We used those a few times for the punch line in a joke.

dance

If you want to try a few, just use "Preview Reply" to see if it works. Try PR for any of those items in the menu bar. (That's how I figured it out .... the "code" one we rarely use in there ... just for testing maybe.

I can't figure out your first question. It may be related to the issues we are currently having with UBB update. I'll see what I can uncover.

@Peggy M - thanks. In your response was a hint it seems. If I don't use the "Use Full Editor" and manually type the tags it looks formatted well. I wonder if the "Use Full Editor" is broken.

You said:

I can't figure out your first question

So the first question, I assume is:
Quote
...the previous person's comment is embedded in klhansen's response. What do I need to do for that to happen?
In reference to #Post1522854

It appears he is using the "quote" feature - but somehow the title block says "Originally said by..." instead of "quote".

That makes sense ... a quote would be embedded in the body of the reply, just like your's. When trying to do your own coding, using both UBB and HTML can only work when you *ask* UBB to do that. Symbols: [ } and < > ... when using html, you even have to code extra spaces and line breaks. <br>

Right. The Quote selection in the lower right of the post you're quoting. It copies the whole post between tags, with the first as "quote=username". The software translates that as Originally Posted by username.
What I did when I quoted you was hit the Quote box, then delete the first part of your quoted post. That works as long as you don't delete the ] or { parts of the tags on either end.

It's been help (especially for folks using a phone) to only quote the pieces necessary. I usually show this: ... to show that it's truncated / before, during, after. But DO NOT EDIT (like change a word, modify or fiddle with fonts or smilkes, etc.) a person's quote ... na na! nono )

I've even used the quote marks sometimes when I'm pulling something for another source besides Stovebolt. Like Kevin mentioned, I just add the =source in the box. Like this:
