1. Get a hairdo - buy new diamond earring to match 2. Buy a new dress - buy a diamond pendant etc etc
Why not simply "budget" and set aside a monthly agreed amount after discussing it with a spouse? Isn't that what marriage is about amongst other things: talking to each other and not hiding things?
Half the tools lots of people buy they really have no need for beyond the one DIY job they are doing. For example unless you are going to be constantly putting up chairrail, basebaord, trim, crown molding, why even bother buying a finish nailer/brad nailer when a hammer and a nailset will do the same thing. That's $$$ that could be put towards a better tool you'll use more often.
I am sure the post was meant in jest, but unfortunately it rings true in many households these days. Our wives to a large extent are supportive of our hobby if they don't actively participate. If they're not, then furtively hiding acquisitions whether they be tools or new parts is only a recipe for disaster in a household. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 308 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 308 | It also works when your child needs something done to the car, My son decided to replace his headers in his mustang gt and I had to go buy all sorts of tools to do the job.

You are right. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 | I have little problem getting tools and parts. I bought a 17 foot boat in 1999. Then I traded it for a 19 footer in 2001 and finaly a 22 footer in 2004. Sold the boat in 2005 and bought my basket full of truck in January 2007. Every time I need tools/parts I tell the wife it's cheaper than having another boat and I am home all weekend rather than being out in the Gulf of Mexico fishing.Moral of the story: if your spouse thinks the truck is expensive show her how much having a boat costs. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 | DOOOOH, Im reallly screwed !
