Anyone have experience with modified 22.5 10 bolt wheels? I found a shop to put new centers on but I’m not sure what width 22.5 wheels to get. I’ve read the wheels and tires links but if it is in there, I missed it several times. I would consider multi-piece wheels if I can mount them myself. Locally they want $80/tire to mount multi-piece wheels. 19.5s are just too small.
Wheel width can be determined by tire selection, 9 x 22.5” tires have a desired width, probably 6 or 7”, however they can be mounted on 5.5” original wheels. Check with your tire supplier.
Picture shows 9 x 22.5” tire on ‘60’s GMC 7” wide rim redrilled to 10 on 7.250.

My concern is that 22.5 wheels come in so many widths I’m afraid to get too wide and have them hit something underneath in a turn. I found some and they had so many widths I didn’t know what to do.
What size tires do you want to use? That is what will determine the width of the wheel. In addition to wheel width, you must take offset into consideration.
The 10R22.5 is a BIG tire, as you can see in the pictures of my '57 2 ton LCF. I wanted as big a diameter as possible on the drives to help keep the rpm down on the road. The 235/80/22.5 will just touch the drag link on a right turn if the steering is up against the stop. I'll measure them and edit this post, you can also Google a tire chart to find the dimensions of various tire sizes. Edited= With my truck parked on concrete and roughly 1000 lbs. in the bed, rear tires (10R22.5) are 39" tall, fronts(235/80/22.5) are 36"

I just want a tire that won’t look tiny like the 19.5 does. I was surprised at how many widths I found. The stock 20” are about 38” tall, 19.5 is 34” tall.
My '50 COE has 22.5" wheels that are 6.75 width. Tires are 9R22.5. Kent PS That size tire is the same radius/circumference as the original 8.25x20 bias tire. Therefore, gear ratios and speedometer response are same as new.
