A group of us are planning to attend this event on Saturday the 21st. The admission is free, and no fee to display your Truck.

Several of us attended the Spring event a couple of years ago and had a blast. There is literally something for everyone at the Heritage Days. There are plenty of Trucks and Antique Tractors, Hit and Miss engines on display. Minter Farms is a working Christmas Tree Farm just south of Atlanta.

I booked a room at the Quality Inn in Fayetteville for Friday evening. I will only be able to attend Saturday as I need to back to work on Monday. The plan is to drive "Thor", I still have some tasks to work out before the trip.

PaPa Joe hit the road about 8:00 this Morning (Friday). He's going to pick Alvin up in route. The two of them together could be trouble.

Wayne said he was going to leave home around 7:00. He's trailering "Little Blue ".

I'll be leaving about 10:00, my Son Justin is joining me. This will be "Thor's " first trip with me, about 600 miles round trip. Cross your fingers !

So more on "My Day" from Friday. I had been working hard to get "Thor " ready for this trip, everything from brakes to ignition and carb. I changed out the points distributor for an HEI, the Truck ran great, but had a oil leak at the shaft. I opted to take the Truck to where I work and deal with the leak there. Justin (my Son)and I left the house about 10:00 AM. Once onthe road I realized the front passengers side brake was dragging bad, the Truck would only do about 30 mph. We limped along and made it to work. I put "Thor" up on stands and pull the brake caliper apart. The caliper slide( threaded stud the caliper slides on) was bottoming out and not allowing the caliper to release. I turned the outer shoulder down on the slides and the caliper would now release fully.

The oil leak was another issue all together. The HEI is not original to the 235, the base doesn't seat like the points distributor. I had tried a gasket, that didn't work, swapped for an "O" ring, that didn't work either. I had some "square shoulder " seals at work and tried one of those. Now remember each time I changed the seal I had to remove the distributor. The " square shoulder " seemed to seat better, not prefect but better. Back on the road around 12:30 PM..

I drove about 10 miles and stopped to check on the oil leak. The leak was still there just not as bad, I snuggled the bolt down again and made the decision to headboard Fayetteville. The truckwas running great. We were running about 60 mph @ 2800 rpm, just cruising along. We had plenty of honks and Thumbs Up. That's when the fuel pump quit...

I managed to get the Truck turned around and pointed towards home. I broke out some tools and started diagnosing a fix. No such luck, the pump was toast. A call to Linda and rescue was on the way. Justin stayed with "Thor " and I went to get the4x4 and trailer.

I made it back with trailer and as luck(My Luck) would have it the winch didn't work. Out came the chains and "Come A Long". "Thor " was loaded and we headed to the house. About 5 miles later thecheck engine light on the 4x4 came on followed be a huge backfire. We made it to the shoulder of the road and it fired right back up. Another 10 miles and it happened again, only this time we were dead on the side of the road. A call to my BIL and an ignition module was on its way. While under the hood I noticed the rear chamber on the 4x4's brake master cylinder was empty. I had been on the brakes hard to get us stopped and apparently blew a line. We added more brake fluid and changed the ignition module. Back on the road forthe10 miles left to home.

I pulled in the drive at 6:00 PM. Threw our bags in the trusty Yukon and went to Fayetteville. I had had enough and was just ready to be there. I dropped my bag in the Hotel room just before 11:00 PM. The day was done and the adventure behind me.

Wayne and Nelda had another tire issue 15 minutes from home. We had a trailer tire come apart. This was a tire that only had 2 trips on it. The set is only 3 1/2 years old. Time now for a full set of trailer tires and 2 more tires for the truck. Then both vehicles will have new tires.

I was very fortunate, I stopped in front of a house with a big drive and double door workshop. The owner invited me to pull up to the workshop. He had a floor jack, an impact wrench, and an air hose.
He also has a 1970 Chevy pickup that he just finished after 7 years. Nelda visited with his wife and discovered they used to live 1/2 mile from us. The couple were very gracious and helpful. I thanked them profusely for their hospitality.
It ended up being we found an angel during our travel.

Wayne, you might consider light radial truck tires instead, My Dad and I have been running them on our trailers for years with very little issues until they wear out or get well over ten years old,
Maybe it's luck or maybe there is a reason you can't use trailer tires on passenger vehicles?

Don

Wayne67vert... Is your trailer open or enclosed? I've got 4 6 lug trailer tires & wheels I took off my enclosed trailer. Probably be OK for a lighter open trailer. You're welcome to them if you like. I could text or email photos.

Thanks for the offer. I've already ordered 5 new tires. I don't want to mess with Chinese tires that are starting to disintegrate.

I don't do it on my trailer but I have friends who don't use their trailer often and when parking make sure the tires are off the ground and sitting on a 2x6 to keep them off the ground and then place a side cover on them........ I probably should myself but use my trailer regularly. (or I use to, gave it my nephew)

Mine is parked on 2x6's and it's in the shade 90% of the time. The tires came on it when I bought it in 2021. I'm sure they weren't the best trailer tires.

I've ordered Carlisle radial trailer tires for replacement. They are rated one of the best trailer tires on the market.

Hate you had all those issues. I had similar problems when I first got my 51 back on the road 3 fuel pumps in less than a month. I think it has a lot to with with all the Chinese parts we're getting these days. I also had a leaky distributor gasket on a 261 once and I wound up cutting one out from the side of an oil jug. Sounds crazy but it worked! good luck with your repairs
