I have just purchased a 42 Chevy big bolt. It was listed and sold as a 1 1/2 ton but I'm not so sure. After arrival it looked alot like my current 3 ton. I measured the wheel base and it is 13', same as Bertha, I measured from the rear of the cab to the rear of the fram and that was 10 1/2', same measurement. There was a sticker on the door that reads GVW 8,000. I believe that is quite a bit more than the standard 1 1/2 ton.
The data plate is worn away except for the bottom numbers that are stamped.

That will tell the story. Bertha looks more like a, 1 1/4, 1 1/2, or 2 ton truck to me. What's the ID tag on Bertha say. A 3 ton '42-'55 model GMC will be a 450 series. I noticed you have Bertha listed as a EC 283, which is a 280 series, 1 1/4 ton truck. Are you going to Fayetteville on Sunday? Bertha will be there....got lots to do on the other one. I cannot find anything on the data plate in the other truck.
Bertha was by another truck which was a 1940 US built 1 1/4 ton. There was a noticible difference in the wheel base. Bertha was longer by almost 4 feet.
