The only time my '54 235 gives me problems is coming up the mountain I live on.

To be fair, big trucks/log haulers could be passed by a man riding backwards on a unicycle.

My question is, could it be float level?

Try checking the resistance of the spark plug wires. They should have a maximum of 1,000 ohms per inch. It sounds like you have spark plugs and/or wires breaking down and missing under load.

Jerry,

I have gone through multiple sets of plug wires. It seems more like a carb issue to me.

Also seems to be more pronounced when it's warmer out. Valves?

It does seem to be relative to load.

Come on over to Townsend next weekend, and your truck can be the guest of honor at a troubleshooting clinic! Compression test, primary ignition circuit resistance test, distributor advance check, and maybe even a cylinder leakdown test. Like Sun Electric Company's slogan used to be- - - - -"We test, not guess!"

Put a fuel pressure gage on your fuel pump and see what it's reading.
