Turns out someone had cut down a set from maybe a half ton to use as a stake body set. The boards are in very nice shape, whoever cut them down, cut them probably a couple inches longer than the real dimension they should be. Which leads to my question, does any have the overall length these should be? I would like to fix up the cut end just a bit but don't know how long to make them. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Check out this page from a 1954 Chevy Master Parts book: http://www.gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=121824I believe the short 3800 running boards are listed here as 40-3/4 long if I’m reading this correctly on my itty bitty screen.  . Looks like 3/4 and 1 ton are same/same for 1947-54.

Thanks for that info. The boards I have measure approx. 43 1/2" each, so I have room to cut them down a bit and rebuild the ends to look like more of a stock finish. With a little metal work and some fresh paint they should look good when done. Thanks again for the measurement.

Maybe when you get your mod done you could come back and post a few pics along with any tips that may come in handy for other Bolters should they need to do something similar.
