If someone could help me ID this 235 engine I would really appreciate it. The serial number on the boss appears to be F606H

Thank you!

Do you see a cast # near the starter?

Chuck, as BC mentioned knowing the block casting number will help define what it is. If we just use the stamped serial# shown, according to the 1957 Chevy Truck data PDF, your numbers indicate it should be a 1957 built June 6th and installed in a 1/2 - 1 ton truck (see screenshot below).

Thanks BC and Dan for helping me with this request. I always thought the ser. # was the most informative of the #’s. Honestly Dan, you gave me all the information I really needed.

Thank you again!

"Z" = 235 car engine..."X" = 235 pickup truck engine.

E 28 4 = May 28, 1954 casting date.

Thanks Jerry and Mike! To be clear, the “Z” suffix tells me it’s a car engine, correct? If so, I know the engine mounts are different and if I want to put it in my ‘50 truck I’ll have to install truck mounts. Is that difficult to do? I wouldn’t think holes would already be in place where truck mounts would have to be installed. Help understanding appreciated.

The truck front mount is a rectangular rubber and steel assembly that bolts to the flat bottom of the steel separator plate between the engine block and the timing gears. It might be necessary to drill that plate for the mount attaching bolts. Some are drilled- - - -others aren't. Use the mount as a template to locate the holes.

Chuck, Just a little pointer to an already existing Tech Tip on converting a 235 "car" motor front mount to truck use. All the details you need to modify that front engine plate to front mount use in your truck! wink Happy drilling! smile

Thanks Jerry and Dan. I wasn’t aware that there was a tech tip on the mounting subject, so I’ll read that tonight. Sounds from Jerry like there might be a remote possibility that the front holes could already be there in this car engine I’m considering buying, so I’ll ask the owner to check for me.

Thanks again for all the help!

Having to swap out the front plate might be a good thing, gives you a chance to pull the pan off.

BC59, not that easy... take the pan off to remove the timing cover, then find the plate is behind the timing gears. No go.
Just drill the holes. I did.

I know what's involved, I'd just as soon see what's inside before installing it in a rig.
