| | | | Joined: Feb 2018 Posts: 128 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2018 Posts: 128 | I had to replace the rear main seal in my 1948 Chevy pickup, which has a 1954 235 out of a Belaire. In doing so, I had to remove the transmission and drop the crankshaft a little. Can someone tell me what the torque specs are for tightening the bolts on the main bearing caps? I've seen 100-110 ft/lbs, but want to make sure. That's what my manual shows for a 1949. I don't have any information on a 1954.

I think that should help answer your question.

Should be the same on your 54 235 engine.

Cranked them down to 90 foot pounds and the crank wouldn't turn. Upon further investigation, the caps have shims. We're going to have to back up and punt. Probably need to plastic-gauge and re-shim the caps. | | |
