Numerous vendors sell kits for switching '55-57 front drum brakes to disc brake assemblies. The kit is based on rotors, bearings, calipers, etc. that were used on 64-77 Chevelle, camero, etc. My truck was converted with one of these kits, by a previous owner. I have a damaged wheel bearing adapter that I'd like to replace, but I haven't found a vendor who sells only the wheel bearing adapters. Does anyone know of a vendor that sells just the adapters? Or who manufactures the adapters?

Thanks,
-Mike

Do you have the undamaged part from the other side? Any machine shop can make a copy of it by taking measurements from the good part. If you can't find anyone local, send it to me and I'll make a copy.

I greatly appreciate the offer Jerry, and may take you up on that. I've been contemplating going that route because it's not a complex part. I figured that it would be faster to buy one because the issue is that I need to get the truck out of my garage and into the storage bay asap. The snow is flying and the daily drivers not in the garage and my wife....well,....can you say "not exactly thrilled with the current state of the garage."

The damaged one can be installed and will work to get the truck to the storage bay. However, I'm trying to avoid taking it apart again to sort it out properly in the springtime when I get back to work on the chassis. I just don't like to do things twice.

First things first- - - -get it into storage and stop sleeping with one eye open. Wives have a habit of waiting until we're asleep to do their "magic". Then take the good part out and send it to met. One of my neighbors found himself sewn up in his bedding while drunk, and worked over with every broomstick and mop handle in the house after being abusive once too often. She broke every one of them.

Try Pirate Jack in Asheville N.C. I use to buy stuff from them but it's been a while. Always got good service/help from them... if they are still there.

What part are you looking for? The kits usually contain inner and outer bearings, races and wheel seals. The bearings have numbers and races usually have numbers that can be looked up by parts houses.

He's looking for an adapter that these kits typically use to properly space and adapt the inner bearing of the later model rotor to the 55 1st series spindle. Not something you find at FLAPS.

You might try checking at Speedway Motors, and/or CPP.

If you are building a conversion kit from scratch, yes. Any kit that needs them comes with them.

There are a few different ways to do the conversion with different parts lists and advantages/disadvantages. If you would like to discuss that, please make a new thread and we would be happy to help you out.

Thank you, Mr. Hanlon. Mr. Fibonachu, thank you, too. As I'm still working on getting the engine, wiring and interior done, the disk conversion is sort of on the back burner. I've got the bearings for the front but have already rebuilt the drum brakes. I WILL open a new thread when I begin with the conversion.

I have found a “conversion hardware kit” which has the adapters, caliper brackets and mounting bolts & nuts. More parts than what I need but oh well….it’s time to press forward. Thanks for the suggestions

Mike34: Just make sure that the hardware kit uses the same bearings as your previous setup.

FOUND IT FOUND IT ---- I too have been looking

YOU MUST CALL - its not in the ONLINE catalogs but they do have it. Plenty in fact.

SPEEDWAY motors - ask for part number 9163100. It's the same as what is in the kit 91631981. It had a part number break down is how me and the tech guys found it. I ordered it today.
