Is this the correct part number for the fuel tank on my 56 chevy 6100 ? # 3719479

That appears to be the correct tank, lot of vendors have it, you probably want a new sending unit/strainer assembly also.

That's the correct tank for the 1/2 to 2 ton trucks. The 2-1/2 ton trucks had the 21.5 gallon tank p/n 3729086...if you find one of those, remember to get the filler neck as well as they are not the same as the 17.5 gallon neck.

Well not looking good for that particular tank but found one for a 56 chevy 3800 261ci , spectra number gm55b . Dimensions are 54 x 12 1/2 x 6 1/2 18 gallons. There were a few others listed ( spectra ) but couldn't get the numbers to show up on the spectra site. After the holidays I'll just call spectra...

Thanks Doug I had looked at that one earlier but couldn't find capacity for it, but it does cross to the gm55b at 18 gallons and a great price now I can stop looking

I finally got the new fuel tank installed last week and it went very well, also new sender and fuel supply lines with plenty of anti rattle material on the tank and straps. Only issue was the sharp corners of the tank which I did round off, this being a spectra GM55B tank 18 gallons and I also added a clear inline filter too

Out of curiosity, did you coat the inside of it with IIRC it's called Red Coat gas tank liner? It's a super sticky red epoxy kinda stuff that will keep the tank from rusting, forever. It'll even hold up to bad gas so if the rig ever sits, you can just clean and flush it with new gas versus replacing the rusty tank again. It's not cheap, a quart of it is $35, and you might need two.. but it's cheap insurance.

Thanks for the info on red coat I've never heard of it before so to answer your question , no I didn't coat it. It's worth considering but I just don't know if I would, it will be coming back out again when I'm ready to remove the cab so maybe then ( about a year from now)
