So it seems that I *do* have the correct Carter JAX(etc), but its all apart. I'm pretty sure Dean had told me who to send it to for a rebuild but I can't find that info (talking to Dean about this project has been like drinking from a fire hose ... I'm trying to keep it all organized but some stuff has been misplaced ...)

But speaking of carburetors, I also have in my parts stash, about three other intakes with carburetors on them. The carbs are all different. Like a previous owner was trying to find something that would work instead of the Carter (which is hard to find). Sortta like how a friend of mine has a Model T carb on a 171 (that's been cut in half...)

Talk about slow going .... my effort to merely get the engine on a stand is entering its third month... frown

One of the guys who rebuilds a lot of carbs for the old Chevys is Chip Sweet (aka Chipper on VCCA). He lives in Texas and his email is chevychip@yahoo.com

Not too long ago, I had some fuel issues with Justin and I rebuilt his Carter carb and rehabbed the vacuum tank. That adventure is documented here: 1928 Truck Fuel Problems, Investigation, and Fixes

Cheers, Dean

The vacuum tank/pump will be the next thing ... I have two, but one is completely disassembled so I'm not even sure what all goes with it. I could dissect the other one to see how it all goes together.

FYI, the 'correct' vacuum tank for a '27 LM has the pot metal lid with eight little bolts on top.

The correct vacuum tank for a '28 vehicle has a stamped sheet metal top with four little bolts.

The innards are different between the two.

Cheers, Dean

Thanks Dean. I'm waiting on the shim stock to get the engine back together and then I can deal with the peripherals.
