my dad bought a 65 grain truck back in the late 70's. it was owned by a farmer just down the road from us, and it was very well maintained. straight six, four speed (no two speed axle) with a grain bed and flip up cattle/livestock guards, all in good condition. i personally hauled many a truck loads of grain to the elevator and enjoyed every moment of it...not so much at the time but in hind site

dad passed away about two years ago but the truck is still on the farm. my brother has taken over the farming business but does not use the truck. we were having a conversation tonight about keeping it or selling it. it's not perfect but it's really is in nice shape. minimal rust (in the usual places) and needs brake work but still in original condition down to the floor mat.

any thoughts on what i/we should do with this truck? my brother is probably more inclined to sell it but i feel like it could be one of those "wished we'd kept it" kind of deals.

big bolts are not necessarily my thing, but this one does hold some sentimental value...

heck keep it, get the brakes working and use it, it never hurts to have another truck around the farm, and i think you might be right about wishing you had kept it, if you really wanted to fix it up make it into a parade truck or bring it back to light as a worker

get it running, rebuild the brakes... somehow you can always find a use for a truck when it is safe to use and runs.

a lot of the mechanical parts like brakes and gaskets, you can still buy from your local parts stores. you might have to order it, but usually they can get it.

if the regular stores can't get it, then look for the older farm/utility truck type parts stores in your area.

you can do a lot to bring it back for use on the farm without tearing it completely apart.

Big Bolts are cool, especially if you have the room and an occasional need for one. My vote would be to keep it, but then again, I like big trucks.
Whatever you decide, how about sharing some pictures with us?

the truck is i nebraska. i'm in arizona. going to be there in a couple of weeks. i'll get pictures and post them when i get back. i love the truck but i just don't think anyone else will use the truck when i'm not around.

take it home with you if no one else is interested in it. if you decide it's not a project you wish to undertake you can always sell it later.

... and if yo don't want it, you have found the place to sell it.

If you do decide to sell it, keep in mind that it might take a little longer to sell it, since it is a big bolt. The guys that really like those are scattered everywhere across the country.
