Where can i find the stock 8-22.5 tires? or is there a metric equivilant?

I have a set of 6 8X22.5 tires that are in good shape. They are on my truck right now, but I am going to get a new set of 9R22.5 tires before too long.
My 8X22.5 ones are for sale, however, you live a long way away, so shipping would not be cheap.
I also have one 7X22.5 tire if anyone needs one.

I emailed Tucker tire about 9R22.5 tires and got no reply.

I have not seen new 8X22.5 tires for sale anywhere. The smallest I have seen for sale are the 9R22.5 tires.

Hi I am new to stovebolt. I have a 56 4400 and I was looking for new tires and learned that 8.22.5 tires have been discontinued for many years. There is a metric size that is equivalent to them and is 245-75-22-5. They are too wide and you will need a wider rim. I did get lucky and I found three new 8-22-5s in East Haven Ct. Thanks John

Where do you get the 9-22.5 tires? Who makes them?

You can get 9R22.5" tires from any regular truck tire shop.
They are made by all the usual suspects.
For a rough tread, I think that Goodyear G124 is the most grippy looking of the choices available.

When buying radial 22.5's be prepared to open you wallet REAL wide. It cost me over $2000 for 6 tires for my fire truck 4 years ago. They look good and ride even better!

Thanks guys. I really only need one 8-22.5. I have five that are pretty shot, but will probably get me by for now. When i restore the truck I will probably buy a set of 9-22.5's, since that is the closest to the original size.

You may try posting a wanted ad in the parts wanted section looking for one.
If you have no luck finding one closer to home, mine are still for sale, although I would like o sell them as a set.

I requested a quote. What condition are the tires in?

Two of them are in excellent shape, two in fair shape, and two in good usable shape, and they are all round, the most important shape.

John 5668 mentioned a metric equivalent for 8 x 22.5 tires but said they are too wide for the rims. I'm not sure I understand. Years ago I read that (for passenger cars) tread width could be as much as two inches wider than the rim without sidewall flex issues. On an old dualie, how much space is there between the the inner sidewalls of the tires? I assume that it would be a bad thing if the sidewalls rubbed together.

What about one piece rims that are larger than 22.5 inches? Since most of the rear end ratios are pretty steep I would think that a larger diameter tire would help cruising speed a little. Of course there is the bolt pattern issue.

Rims larger than 22.5 inch are not as common, require tires that are too tall and wide to fit our AD trucks.

While tall tires make you go faster there is a limit as to what fits, and to the brakes you have to stop them. I have found that the 1.5 and 2 ton AD trucks will fit about a 39" tire, same as a 8.25X20 and 9R22.5, on the front but they rub the springs at hard turns. Most people don't mind this.
For the rear you won't find wheels larger than 22.5"X6" without having them made. Bolt pattern adapters are not available to switch from the small 10 lug to the large 10 lug used by almost all large trucks today. there physically is not enough room to easily make adapters, there is two much interference between the two bolt patterns to make it work safely. I believe 9R22.5 tires are as large as is recommended on the available 22.5"X6" wheels. 10 or 11R22.5 tires could probably be run in the rear if wheels could be found to fit. That is about as large as I would try and fit on our old trucks.

I have not mentioned the multi piece 20" wheels that they came with. Tires are available to fit the somewhat narrow rims to get about 40" diameter. With wider rims you may be able to run single 20" tires in the rear. The surplus military Michelin XL, XML, and XZL tires can be had relatively cheep and are 46", 52", and I think larger. Any larger single tire should fit the rear, only limited by the bed interference, depending on your bed, however special wheels would have to be made.

I think that 8.25X20 and 9R22.5 tires are as big as is practical for our 1.5 and 2 ton AD trucks.

I got all six of mine and had the wheels blasted and powder coated by Less Schwab tire. Mine are 10.00 22.5s and the rears are a heavy lug for $1600.00. I don't know if the 10.00s are cheaper than the 9s but that is what my truck had when I bought it.
