I’m starting to work on fixing up a grain hauling dump truck that my dad bought in the early 1960s. It has a 235 with a mix of 1956-1959 parts installed. I think that was not unusual. One stuck exhaust valve but the rest looks ok so far. This forum looks like a great community.

You have certainly come to the best place to talk about all things about Stovebolt's and your "Big Bolt" farm truck. Kuddo's for keeping the truck in the family and bringing it back to life.
Just a note that you may want to get some pictures (LOTS - haha!) taken and posted so we can all see your truck. You will get pestered as in here, pictures do literally speak a thousand words and help immensely when you need help with something. Plus we love to see what you got too!
When you need to get some questions on your truck going, the best forum for you will be The Big Bolts forum as that is the place for all "Big Bolt" related conversation. Fellow "Big Bolt" owners are most experienced and knowledgeable about your truck and will be able to answer questions about the things special to your truck.
Looking forward to seeing pictures of your truck when you can post them and future conversations in the forums.

My dad bought this two ton truck around 1962, it was used by the previous owner on the highway, we think probably to haul cattle. My dad used it as a grain truck until 1979 (replaced it with a three ton GMC with a 366). After that it was used around the yard to haul water around, then was parked somewhere in the 1985-1990 area. I used to drive it around the farm to haul water to trees and the garden. It has an easy-shifting four speed and a vacuum shift split ratio rear end and vacuum wipers. There is no radio and a standard 1# volt generator, so there is no electronics on this vehicle at all, no vacuum tubes, no transistors, no diodes.
That is a sharp contrast to my day job which is designing engine management computers for industrial (North American market) and on-road export markets with European emission standards.

These pictures work just fine. We did have some problems yesterday with picture posting throughout the site, but those have been fixed.
Just a suggestion on future pictures. It's helpful if you add a "caption" to your picture to explain or provide more detail about the picture itself. Having a caption display (along the bottom of the picture when viewed) describing your 2nd picture would be great for all to relate to what its all about. Something like "Dad's 1959 GMC Grain Truck - circa 1960 something" tells everyone looking a bit of the trucks history and that you've kept it in the family.
"Captioning" is also very helpful when you need to point out something specific in a pic related to a tech question.
Anyhow, just my $.02 worth on the subject. Thanks for sharing these pictures and look for ward to seeing a whole bunch more.
