Available at Home Depot, Behr Burnished Amber, it's a matte metallic that's really really close to original. Used it on the bright strips top and bottom of speaker grille and glovebox (from a pre-52 truck) to make it more correct for my '52.

More left to do, and at some point will buy a quart of the real thing and repaint the whole interior (fondness for the gloss is just about gone). It's still great to have a rattle can option lots cheaper than you'd ever find in an automotive specialty color formula.

That's great. I wouldn't worry about doing it again in the future.

If that stuff is half as good as Rustoleum it will outlast you.

I rattle canned the entire under-carriage of my Cadillac 20 years ago and it still looks like new with 100,000 plus miles on it.

Rattle cans aren't half bad if used properly with realistic expectations. Just takes alot of them to cover large areas, and for that a pistol grip sprayer sure comes in handy.

Guess should've posted this topic in paint and body. Oh well, mod please move as desired.

A little more shine and metallic than the original but it looks good. thumbs_up
It's on topic in Interiors as well, so I think it can stay here.

Those pistol grip rattle cans with fan pattern spray are really great.

I use rattle cans for lots of stuff and as usual, preparation is the key to a nice lasting finish.

Do you have pictures of your interior masked off?

I have noticed that most attempts at replicating AD interior color end up too shiny.

Anyone had any luck with a Satin or Matte Clear to tame down the shine?

Might not have been clear about what's Behr rattle can in the pics above. The Behr isn't glossy at all. Attached below is a pic inside glovebox which was painted with the Behr Burnished Amber (as is the white Chevrolet lettered strip above speaker grille, as well as some of the outside of the glovebox door).

When I repainted inside cab in 2002 I chose the gloss. But I've grown to dislike it, preferring matte instead.
Back then I had salvaged some very large and intact flakes of the original interior paint, found when removing back half of the old headliner. Asked my auto paint supplier to try and duplicate the flakes, except make it glossy.

No I don't, sorry. Small parts were removed from cab for these latest touch ups, no masking needed.

If you're fortunate enough to live where there's a store that supplies paint to body shops, you may find they'll be happy to make a rattle can for you in any shade or style of paint they carry. Rattle cans have been improved over the last 10 years. Believe it or not body shops use these all the time when just a small amount of paint (between 2 and 4 ounces) is needed. It keeps them from having to buy a pint or quart of paint they won't need to use again. I used a Ford color which was very close to the original interior color and had the place add a de-glosser to it. If you do that, test any clear you might spray over it. Some of the de-glossers will inhibit drying or cause crazing...

I'm using Rust-Oleum's Dark bronze metallic which is actually pretty light in color and close enough for my demands, which is very little. It's a beater but with a smile.

Maybe you can explain to me why most people that I have seen do not use the rattle can triggers. I have used them in the past and they work well.

Ron, I have had people tell me that they didn't know they existed. They are very handy and make using spray cans so much easier!

Skooter, I think your dash looks great. Good job.

I have a 55.1 3100 that is/was originally Ocean Green. Under the flakey layers of repaint on the dash, it's a light version of Ocean Green. What!?

When I repaint, I'll look at the Behr products.

I had the interior heater fresh air intake cover scanned ( it was one of the only part that didn't show sun damage) and a local paint shop mixed up this ppg paint for me.
I think it looks great.

HERE'S a pix.

I'll bet it isn't "grey" in person.
If it is a close duplicate of the original color, it will appear to change color with differing light sources and from differing angles.
