The 3rd annual "Southern Bolters Jamboree " is going to be June 2nd and 3rd in conjuction with the Smokey Mountain Nationals AD truck Show in Townsend Tn. The links below have more information on the show and area lodging. If you are planning to attend ths AD Nationals you may want to reserve lodging ahead of time as this is a large event as well as a tourist destination.

I have secured a paviolion at the Mountaineer Campground for the group to gather on Friday and Saturday evening (there is a local criuse on Friday evening as well). I will post more information as the plans progress and the event grows closer. Please make plans to join us, this gathering is always a great family event.

I'm starting a new job 4/3/23 and won't have much vacation built up by then, but it's a possibility. I'll keep it on my radar.

Jay, do folks still meet at that shopping mall where a group of us meet some time ago? Thst would be a nice place if they still do......just thinking.

I have a Cabin reserved at Mountaineer Campground for Thursday thur Saturday nights.

Need some advice from some TN geography experts. The natural route for me to travel to Townsend would be I-40 from the west.

If (huge IF), I drove my 51, I’d prefer to do as little interstate as is practical. The one big climb from the west in the interstate (just east of Cookeville or Crossville, can’t remember which) is a little sketchy even in a modern vehicle. You have semis climbing at 45 and all the passenger vehicles still wanting to do 75.

Is there an alternate route on two lanes that isn’t just as bad, or worse? Sometimes, the interstate is the safe route when options are limited.

I bought a cheapo GPS a few years ago when renting a car (they wanted $30/day for one so I bought one for a little over $100) and it has a feature to avoid freeways. I could maybe fire it up and see what route it would suggest. Or if someone familiar with TN weighs in, that would be good since I drove thru TN back in 1970. I bet things have changed a bit since then.

Google maps will suggest a route with no interstate. I just need to know if alternate routes are better or worse than the interstate.

I-24 between Paducah and Nashville doesn’t scare me. Neither does I-40 between Nashville and wherever it is that you climb “the pass.” And the climb wouldn’t be that scary if your fellow drivers could drive with some sense. But they typically don’t.

Edit: the alternate route east through TN is US Highway 70.

Not sure if the wife and I are going yet, but went ahead and reserved a room at the Tremont Resort for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
There are not many places left available.
Hope to make a mini vacation out of it.

Well, the wife is up for a road trip, so we should be attending the Southern Jamboree. May do Beale Street Wednesday night and then on to Townsend Thursday. Probably stay over Sunday and Monday to do some back road exploring. Then wing it on the way back home.

JW51, we should be staying in Cape that first Tuesday night and will hit the Pilot House that evening for dinner.

You’re talking the Tuesday before the event?

The Smokey Mountain Nationals are focused on the Advanced Design (AD) trucks and since I drive an Art Deco 1946 Chevy I thought it would be prudent to ask if my truck would eligible to register for the show, probably not for judging but at least allowed on the grounds for a good parking spot. I did mention that I would be attending with the Southern Stovebolters group.

Here is the first response: "Archie, this is Dave. I haven’t heard of the Southern Stovebolters group. How many are coming?" My response: "Stovebolt.com with about 23,000 followers, the Southern group of about 25 has met the past two years in Lebanon TN. Coming to you this year from southern states. They would like to park as a group." Then Dave introduced himself and supplied a phone # for contact the I will PM Tuts 59. "Well we are honored and will have a special place for your group! Thanks for thinking of us. Can i announce on the FB group page?"

From this point, I will leave it to Tuts 59 to make any arrangements for our group and information about Stovebolt.com for announcements on their FB page.

Archie, I have been in contact with the FB link and asked several questions there and had responses, no I haven't actually spoken to the organiser. I will reach out to Dave and get back to the group. I didn't mena to duck your call, I actually had a forklift run over my phone this week and have to get another, the new phone is much harder to navigate, it's a learning curve I guess.

Archie and Linda are registered and we will make the adventurous drive through the mountains in the '46 arriving on the first of June and departing Sunday the fourth. I received a call back from Dave, the event organizer and he informed me that I did not need to register the 46 since they will only be judging the AD trucks for this show.

Craig, do you still have the same phone number?
Vicki and I should be in the area that Thursday before the event.

Don, that would be "Yes". My old phone died and unhappy Death under a 10k all- terrain forklift. The girl at AT&T had a time trying to download my info from the phone, looks like she was able save most of my stuff and contacts and pictures at least..

I hope to make some sort of reservation for something (even if it’s just a tent camping spot). Still unsure of my plans, but I have this penciled in.

Been under the weather for 2-3 weeks but planning to be there. Hopefully driving the 37.

Made reservations at the Tally-Ho Innn today. Told me "its all we have" which was a king size bed and jacuzzi. A bit pricey but I can't take it with me!! I may check some others tomorrow
Talked to local bolter here and invited him.... have few more to check in with.
Time will be here before we know it.

Big things are going on over at the Smoky Mountain Nationals FB page. They are really happy about Stovebolt.com being involved this year. There are plenty of vendors signing up and a information on lodging and the local cruise. Take a minute and check it out.

i live near townsend an will be at the show set up in the swap meet area. the show last year was great an theyve got a even better one planed this year. HIGHWAY 70 is a good route if you are coming from the nashville diredtion. sounds like were going to have a good mix of vehicles

I was talking with the event organizer Dave just yesterday, he is really excited about this year's show. Dave was saying that he looks to double the registered Trucks from 50 last year to 100 this year. He is especially happy to have so many trucks coming that are not in the judging category. The range of GM trucks is from almost every decade.

Dave mentioned that with all the trucks in the show both this year and last, there still WAS NOT an entry from the great state of Alabama. As the " Southern Bolter's" group we need to see if we can get a Truck from Alabama registered in the show.

I happy with the number of folks planning to attend, I'm really looking forward to meeting some new faces.

Archie and Linda will arrive at Big Meadow campgrounds on June 1, departing June 4. Looking forward to seeing our fellow Bolters.

The blue is the back of a chair that I "won" at K.C. many years ago for buying the most parts at JimCarters that year. I didn't know it at the time untill we got back. Think I beat Terry "capital27" by 10 or 20 dollars.
I've always like that phrase and use it a lot.

One of the best part of our reunion here at my house was everyone brought a dish of food. I liked the Stovebolt cake the best.
The picture at the top of our forum here was here at our house. I'm sure you can pick out Victoria standing in the middle with her pink Stovebolt shirt and me behind her.

Hey Tuts 59 My wife & I have a place in NC just over the mtn from Townsend. We would love to be one of the new faces you meet, but events here in Florida are conspiring against me. My wife is a former nurse & volunteers at the local hospital. June 1st is her last before taking off for the summer so that kinda seals the deal for me.

Thanks for promoting this Southern Bolt get together. It's appreciated even though some of us can't make it.

FWIW, I stumbled across the actual "agenda" for the Smoky Mountain Nationals event nestled almost invisibly in their FB page.

Figured maybe worthwhile to post it here in a more visible form for everyone to see and know what all is on tap!

Kudos to TUTS 59 and the rest of the Southern Bolters for the support and interaction with the Nationals organizers and event. They have posted a bunch of "Thank You" notes on their FB page on the Southern Bolters big involvement and support of their event. Well done All!!!

Wish I had the opportunity to come join you. I may have to put a reserved place on next years calendar around this time frame to make that a possibility.

RLB, Great to here from you, glad you checked in. I fully understand the demands of family and life, as 2 Ton ( Don King) always says "family first ". You Wife's dedication is to be celebrated, that's a life long career. I have a daughter going through her residency now, it takes so much to make that happen.

If by chance you can make them you'll be more than welcome. I have a couple of ideas for gathering's later in the year so please check in often.

Alright Folks we are 2 weeks out from the Jamboree in Townsend. Things are moving along , I have the stickers completed and shirts are being printed. Linda and I will be leaving home on Wednesday the 31st and staying overnight in Maggie Valley. I hope to meet all those coming from the south at the "Buttered Biscuit" https://www.facebook.com/TheButteredBiscuit/ Thursday morning for breakfast and the then the trip to Townsend.
