I found a set of decent traction tires for my 52 2 ton. I currently have 8.25 x 20, the tires I found are 9.00 x 20. Are other guys out there using 9.00's. Any issues I should be aware of.

I don't know about the AD 2ton but my TF 2ton has 10.00x22.5s came with 9.00x22.5s and they fit fine.

Don't confuse the two different wheel sizes. There respictive numbers do not match. A 10.00x20 is bigger then a 10.00x22.5.

A 10.00x20 is the same as a 11.00 22.5. The 22.5 wheels are the tubeless replacements for the tube type 20's.

Jason, I think your truck will be fine steping up to the 9.00 tires...they will be a little taller making your speedometer a little off.

Jason, I recently swaped out the tired old 8.25x20 tires for a completed set of 9.00x20s on my '48 2 ton. They just fit the rims. Any wider and they wouldn't have been able to get the split rims back together. They are taller than the 8.25s and they sure fill up the front wheel wells, but I haven't had any problems with them rubbing the fenders. I originally wanted 8.25s but I got a very good deal on these 9.00s. I submited some pics of my truck to the Gallery, but havn't seen them yet. When it gets posted you'll be able to see they look good. Or I could email them to you. In short...they do work.

I had 9.00's on my '53 COE 2ton, before I ran across new 8.25's at a good deal. Had no problems, with them.

I'll confess I know very little about big truck tires...

But isn't one of the dangers of upsizing the rear tires the possibility that the side walls will rub each other in the rear causing tire failures?

I might ad that 9.00 X 20 10 ply tires's were an option, on the rear of '49-'55 Trucks.

Depends on the width of the rim. A wheel designed for the 700X20 may not work with the 900X20 as the wheel would be narrow and not have enough off set to keep the side walls from rubbing. If you already have 8.25's and they have plenty of space between them 900X20 should be fine. As old sub mentioned sidewalls rubbing can cause tire failure. Underinflation can also cause the sidewalls to rub.

The wheels that the 7.00 and 7.25 tires fit is a 6 inch rim, found on most 1-1/2 ton trucks. 9.00x20s will not work on 6 inch wheels because they're too wide and you can't get the outer bead and locking ring on. I do believe you can put an 8.00 on the 6 inch rim but thats the limit.

The 2-ton trucks have the wider 7 inch wheel which accepts 8.00, 8,25,& 8.50s best with 9.00s being the limit. I don't think you'd have to worry about the wider tire sidwalls rubbing, because as stated above, if they're too wide, they won't fit the rims.

kbcsw, you're absolutly right. Underinflated dual sets will rub each other, and left unchecked will cause tire failure.

I'm supposed to have 7.50's on the front. I've got 8.25x20's all around on a 2 ton and they rub on the front frame on a "stop to stop" turn. No problems on the rear at all.
