Stove That is a good shot of your Gimmy,my winch truck is rougher than that with bigger dents but still is OK good heater, doors close about a ton winch system. Can damage enough stuff with it. Gin poles do 13 ft.6 I put a chain between the poles and climb up to get my cable in the crown pully. Then try to clear the wires like in a barnlot.

Otto You know a good pair of the 7 inch headlamps are just fine, when you dim they go right on the white line so you can see the edge of the road. Especially good when there is no white line.

I've had this truck since 1975 and it has been my daily driver most of the time ever since. It has been used for everything from a get away vehicle at my wedding to moving friends with the stock trailer to hauling the Model AA Ford to car shows and parades. This weekend we were hauling hay for the cows.

Looks like she's getting the job done!
What's the story on the Binder pickup in the background?

It set in different pastures since the late 70s and turned into yard art and sign about 3 years ago.

Just a note folks to remind to please keep this "On-Topic".

Seems we are meandering from the intent.

More reports and pics about actually using your Chevy or GMC trucks and less off-topic chit chat please.

Thanks! thumbs_up

I am trying to get better at taking photos of the truck while she works, so here is todays work. The very job she was designed and built for just a few years back.

Clearing out an old windrow with some "old"ish growth hardwoods. Lots of cherry and maple with a few oaks, hackberry, and mulberry trees. Four loads down and still another load or two for tomorrow. Pay no mid to the terrible stacking of the logs. This farm is only 5 miles from mine so its a toss and haul on the backroads vs neatly stack and strap for transport via the main roads. Each load was between 8 and 10 ton roughly. The smaller stuff is easy, the big suckers (3' diameter) are hefty and really make her squat.

She's definitely getting the job done! Nice pictures!
I assume those buggy whips on the mirrors are antennas of some sort?

Yessir. I have a CB in the cab which has been a godsend on the longer drives. Originally had both hooked up in unison but battled the SWR readings constantly, so now only 1 is live and the other is just there to balance the looks.

It is nothing to make a habit of, but 20 footers will ride, all-be-it a little squirrely with that much weight behind the fulcrum point of the bed. The neighbor farm called and said they had some good large oaks suitable to be milled, so I went and grabbed the long ones yesterday and then bucked and loaded the rest this morning. Roughly 16 logs ranging between 16 and 28 inches diameter. A mix of white, red, and pin oak. Payment for the logs is in the form of custom cut fresh lumber from these very logs back to the farmer later this year. Bartering the old school way.

Good pics! I’ve loaded enough logs within the bed and tailgate to make steering a bit light, but your 20 footer is extensive and impressive. Illinois requires a red flag hanging on the end of that log to help avoid it sticking through a tailgater’s windshield.

Typically whatever equipment is on hand. Skid loader, regular loader, excavator, tractor with forks, telehandler etc. Smaller equipment handles the smaller logs just fine, but the big suckers like in the above photos require a loader or excavator to lift and stack.

If im next to the road or on good hard pack then ill load high and heavy, but if im half a mile back in the fields I keep it lighter and lower. Body roll over rough ground with a tall heavy load gets the adrenaline pumping a bit high for my liking.

Moving firewood yesterday with the Stovebolt.com Flagship. The Binder gets the big, heavy stuff.

Otto, to load the '49, I used a '63 model Marine Corps surplus human, 1 ea. Not as good a shape as he used to be but still able to whip his weight in wild cats.
For the Binder, I used a Takeuchi tracked skid steer loader with a grapple. The big log made the skid steer a little light in the back ... wink

The '73 Binder gets the big logs, though...

It's a nice 80 degree day today so I went over to Lowe's for some irrigation supplies and then picked up a new battery for the Cadillac at Advance.

That new GMC next to me has a remote operated, electric tailgate. What a time to be alive!

Had to install some outdoor planters in front of the Ritz-Carlton today. Beautiful weather to work in and drive in.

APD came by. I thought he was going to tell me to get the truck off the sidewalk or move or whatever. Nope. He just wanted to look at it and talk about it.

Went out to my mom's on Sunday to cut some logs that I couldn't do the week before because the chainsaw wouldn't start (probably has a Rochester carb).

Anyway, it was fortunate that I decided to get that taken care of. When I arrived, I found a large tree limb had fallen across the driveway during the previous night's storm.

Drove 25 miles to a rock yard in my '52 GMC. Picked up 2000 lbs of 3/8" gravel for landscaping around the homestead and drove back home. Nastiest hill is about 1/2 mile long at a 7% grade coming north out of Kerrville. Started up at 55 mph, floorboarded the throttle and was doing 37 mph when the grade tapered off. My 228 is pretty gutless, but very reliable.

Lots of work for Ol' Roy this week.

Had to haul plants and planters for work on Monday.

I sold a motorcycle on Sunday and the dude paid me $25 to haul it to his house yesterday. Red flag? We don't need no stinkin' red flag!
