It also included a numbers-correct Rochester B carburetor, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, bell housing, generator, and starter. It was driven into the shop a few weeks ago before they pulled the engine and tried to make the cylinder head fit a 292. Somebody else's stupid attack was my good fortune. A head gasket and a little work would put it back into running shape. I'm also in the process of acquiring a basket case 261 with a repairable cracked block for $150.00 plus shipping. People who are asking outrageous prices for "rebuildable" stovebolt engines are usually engaging in wishful thinking.

| | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 1,922 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 1,922 | I would weight the value of a 261 block, crank, & caps without damage, cracks, large overbore, seizure, stripped threads, etc. as $500. delivered (adds 10.8% to engine size), by comparison with stroking with an offset crank journal and 292 rods (adds 4.8% to engine size) at far greater cost.

I've got two more 235's and two GMC 270's to pick up, free for the hauling, once I get around to making some road trips. Once I achieve room temperature, I expect that my family will be able to give me a first class funeral just by selling several truckloads of scrap iron!

'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.
