Looking for main bearings for my 54 235. Not making anymore apparently. Looking for 853m20 or 30. Any ideas where to look?

The later model 235 main bearings with the locator tab at the parting line of the cap and block can be used by modifying the block. The 54-55 year only 235/261 bearings with the locator dowels in the upper bearing can be very difficult to find. I've modified blocks to use either style of bearings in the past, so I know that procedure works.

Justice Go on ebay and watch for a good buy on bearings,bought a set of minus .002's for 40$ "old wheezer" written right on the box. Had been installed,never run worked fine running today !!

Was able to do a little web sleuthing this morning and found the following sites that look like they might have what your after (neither are mine BTW):

Neither of these show the item being "out-of-stock". The Jegs listing even indicates they are available for shipping on 03/06/2023.

Maybe you can use your Google-Foo to locate some main bearings I need. A set of .030" undersize mains for a 1948-52 216 or 235 spray-oiler engine. The Federal-Mogul number is a 648M-30 Thanks!

Gdads51 It's interesting that northern auto parts call those .020 over bearings. The railcar load I sold we always called em .020 under ! We sold those all over southern indiana and illinois,then the rings were oversize. In the archives that store had an antiquated align-boring machine for model T type work. This was before the sunnen equipment turned wet and became really accurate.

I will see what I can do. I think I already tried to chased that rabbit down a whole and lost sight of it once before, but maybe another go at it will locate something???

It amazes me too that the can't seem to get the description right. Another topic I think we have discussed before, right Jerry - lol.

For some unknown reason, the 1941-47 main bearings have a bore size .002" larger diameter. I have a set of them that look like they will work, but I'd need to put a piece of .001" thick shim stock between the bearing shell and the block, and the cap. I'm not really fond of the idea of doing it that way! If I end up doing it that way, I'll use stainless steel shim stock and red LocTite to assure there's no relative movement.
