Overall it runs ok but lags a little bit when I give it gas from the stopped position. It runs fine when the choke is out.(no lag) This aftermarket distributor doesn't have any vacuum advance to the carburetor on it. Maybe this is my issue? Would putting an original style distributor on the truck with a Vacuum line to the carb to fix the issue?

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,778 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,778 | Vacuum advance doesn't do anything during acceleration, so the distributor probably isn't the problem- - - -unless it happens to be a Pertronix. Then it's definitely the problem. Find the vacuum leak(s) and fix them before trying to tinker with the ignition system. Choking is compensating for excess air getting into the engine without getting any fuel mixed with it. I use an unlit Propane torch to look for air leaks- - - - -intake manifold gaskets, carb base gasket, even a bad windshield wiper hose or motor can cause a lean stumble.

Photos? If its a mallory, there are two. One with nothing but a mechanical advance and the other with a vacuum advance.
