Raises a question about my carb. It measures 1 9/16" across the fuel bowl opening (pics attached). According to Deve's Venerable 261 page it's a 235 carb but will work on the 261. The throttle body measures 1 1/2" across, with mounting holes only 2 5/8" apart center to center. Problem is, manifold studs are 2 15/16" apart.
Dumb question...does this carb have the wrong throttle body? Kinda surprising a 216 throttle body would fit a 235 carb. There's not enough metal to widen holes to 2 15/16," so I won't attempt to do that. Maybe it won't be difficult to find the correct throttle body but ya never know. Would seem to be the thing to do. Or just get another carb.

Take anything that's posted on that website with a big grain of salt. Lots of misinformation there. A Carter YF for a 258 cubic inch AMC six will bolt onto the 261 intake, and it will be calibrated very close to correctly for the displacement of the engine.. It's also got a slotted throttle body that will fit either stud spacing. Rochester carbs make pretty good paperweights, but if they've had any gasoline in them lately they get pretty stinky. Jerry

What's the deal with Deve and his site? He's put a lot of work into it.
Believe it or not, when I first got this truck and started looking for information and help with it, I asked Deve for some help with a few things and he referred me to this site.

I'm not averse to an AMC fitment type solution but would prefer something more conventional and with manual choke. It's early yet, plenty of time to gather info. Like Otto, I've been referring alot to Deve's site. TONS of info on the big wide web and Deve's site has been a good resource so far.

Swapping a main carburetor body with a different throttle base is like playing Russian roulette with 5 chambers of the revolver loaded, but go ahead if you're feeling lucky. For accurate information on carburetors in general, and Carter in particular, it would be a good idea to contact Carb King at his place of business, "The Carburetor Shop". He's far too busy to accept private messages on Stovebolt, however. Jerry

How did you identify this Rochester as a 235 carb? It’s very difficult to do without a brass tag, which is most often missing.
I’d guess that you either: 1) Have a 216 carb with the smaller throttle body 2) If you have somehow verified the bowl is from a 235…it’s a “mutt” that’s been assembled from various non-matching pieces over the years. Super common with many carbs, but the B in general.
IMO, your best option would be locating a carb that was designed for a very similar cubic inch engine. The B that was designed for that application is quite hard to find. Some have used the Zenith from a GMC 270. The option Jerry mentions is a viable one.
2nd best option would be a 235-designed carb (preferably not a B) that is complete and not a mismatch of parts. Several folks here have reported making a 261 run pretty well with a 235 carb. The Carter YF is the most commonly recommended here, and it’s what I’ve chosen to use on my 235.

In one photo, I can almost see the numbers stamped on the base of the carb. 44? Rest of the numbers are hidden by the tape measure. May be possible to ID the carb from that.
I have a 261 carb on my 235. It fits the manifold just fine.

Yes to both, and strongly suspect it's the wrong throttle body, but since nobody's answered that question here, what else can a guy do besides reference against a site like Deve's?

And I'll go ahead and say this since it's been posted above that there's "lots of misinformation" on Deve's site. I'd like to know what parts of his site I SHOULDN'T use for reference because it might save me and many others alot of work! And please do so publicly so everyone will know. Or a reference link at least.
