Well it looks like the big green monster (49 2-ton flattie) now has a partner in grime......
On our way home the other day... I spotted "boomer" sitting forlornly in a field corner...... So I told the wife to turn around..and it was into the driveway we went... and knocking on the farmhouse door I went...lol..
Well after a bit of discussion... it was out to the truck for a better look at what was there....
That's when I met Boomer for the first time..
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/graflexmaster/detail?.dir=a5bare2&.dnm=cc58re2.jpg&.src=ph
As you can see he was knee high in weeds and dry grass...... well rather than fight with the knapweed... We pulled boomer out to a better spot with a tractor...and here's what he looked like then... http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/graflexmaster/detail?.dir=a5bare2&.dnm=8ef5re2.jpg&.src=ph
Not bad if I do say...... a '48 Chev 2-ton boom-truck with a 30ft boom http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/graflexmaster/detail?.dir=a5bare2&.dnm=4f69re2.jpg&.src=ph and a 40 ton winch...
And now? I'm now the third owner....... The first ownder installed the boom/winch...and also swapped the dipper-235 with a later full pressure 235... as well as converting everything to 12v....
A couple years ago the second owner re-built the carb... and said it didn't respond well... (something bout sucking some crud up from the fuel tank)... So this is a classic case of "It ran when I parked it"...... He also said the brake hydraulics were toast..... so I'll have to sort those out as well as the carb issue.....

I'm also looking to figure out exactly what engine is in boomer... the numbers on the dist. pad (best as I can tell thus far) read as "95T2982F255N" so any help in that dept will be wonderfull..

That engine is from a 55. I don't have my book with me to nail it down exactly though. Nice find, excellect year too.

Good looking truck. Is that a barrel of rocks on the front?

I have a '53 6100 boom truck. The brakes don't work on it either but that don't keep it from being the workingest tool on the farm. I use the hand brake.

My yard dog

You'll be surprised how many uses you'll find for that thing.

Good looking wench truck. If you've never had a wench before after you use it a while you'll never see how you made it with out one.Is the extra tranny mounted in front of the wench being used as speed control for the wench or forward and backward in place of a two way pto. If you ever have time some close up pictures of this setup would be cool.
