I'm just wondering, what is the cut off in weight for a standard bellhousing? To rephrase that, would a 1946 2 ton truck bellhousing fit in a 1946 1/2 ton?

Thanks Bill! I'm trying to get an extra so my engine swap will go smoother. Chevies and GMCs all the same? I thought those big bolts would have used larger clutches or different transmissions.

not sure about if the one from 228, 248 etc GMC fit the Chev - trannies are mostly 4spd back then, but the 3spd fits too - different size clutches fit in the same housing

Be sure to give thought to what kind of mounts you want to use;the early style bellhousing with the mounts bolted to the sides won't fit the later style crossmember, and vice versa.

I believe they do change when you get to the really big GMC stuff, after 3 ton I think?
Diesel will be different.
If more than 4 speeds could be different?

actually 228 bellhousing. And new 302 motor. Truck is a 1940, but should be the same as 1946. Got a hold of a fellow stovebolter who had one in a 1 1/2 or 2 ton 1946 gmc. I wanted to know if they were compatible.

yes - as I said, the size of the truck doesn't change the bellhouseing, there's only one - 228/302 same difference

Yes 46 1/2T and 2T. bellhousing are the same, 1948-53 is the years differant than 46 and they are same for 1/2T and 2T. just use a bigger clutch in the 2T.
