The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts Brakes Need Help

I am trying to finish up a nine year restoration project. I have a 41 1 1/2 ton super duty! ready for battle if it were not for the brakes. Here is the situation, new rear wheel cyls., & master, hoses and lines, rebuilt front wheel cyls,.and Hydrovac. NO visable leaks. I bled the lines starting with Hydro, front, then rear. I get af irm peddle, start engine, step on brake firm, step on peddle again brake goes to floor. What is up? Help! Joe

If you are loosing fluid, my guess would be that the hydro is leaking internally. My 48 did that, I by-passed it to confirm my diagnoses.

I am not losing fluid. It acts as if it has air in the lines. I just can't seem to get it out.

I would pressue bleed the brakes from the wheel cylinders up this should push all the air out of the system.

Make sure all of the shoes are properly adjusted, each shoe needs to be independently adjusted on the big trucks.

Thank you for the tip. That was it. I put the wheels on some time back and left them loose on purpose so they wouldn't lock up, and then I forgot. That is what happens when you stretch a project out over nine years. Thanks again guys it is almost ready for its first cruise in, then it's off to the gravel pit where it will no doubt win best of show!
